My Albin-28TE has a 330 Cummins and a genset. The two flooded batteries (an 8D and a Group27) are controled by one standard Perko switch (Off-A-B-Both).

In my dreams, I've wanted to designate one battery as the "House" bank (deep-cycle) and one as the "Engine" bank (Cummins + Genset). Key to this would be installing a seperate Perko for each bank ala West Marine's suggestions (I see they sell a panel for this now).

Last time I bought batteries, I couldn't figure out what to do, so just installed 2 "dual-purpose" WM batteries. Well, it's new battery time again, and I'm thinking I should designate the G27 as a deep-cycle "house" bank, and get a starting or dual-purpose 8D for the Cummins.

I *can* start the Cummins with the G27, but I'm thinking the engine is where I want the reserve capacity. If the reefer runs down the G27, I start the Cummins or genset and charge it.

Thanks for any opinions....Lyle
