BE roundup in Norfolk/Portsmouth?

A straight line (which of course you can't actually run) from the Bay Bridge to Thimble Shoals is 125 nautical miles. In the real world, and in statute miles, yes it is close to 175. No rivers involved, all Bay. Goat, were you thinking from the north end of the CBBT, rather than the Bay Bridge up at Annapolis?

Goat Locker,
I am not sure where the confusion is but from where I am in Kent Narrows I cant even get to Solomons at 50-60 miles. I have only done the trip once but it was about 11 hr. run rb2@gr5t 13-15kts.
Like I said I am willing to do it if we can plan it around our vacation. I just cant see traveling that far using 350gl. of fuel for 1-2 nights.
I wasnt sure where we were going next summer but this gives us some direction and I can incorporate it into other destinations along the way. Also sometime this week I will try and check my charts for the exact distance.

The Chesapeake Bay is about 200 miles long, stretching from Havre de Grace, Maryland, to Norfolk, Virginia. From Bluewater Marina To Solomon Island is around 100 miles and takes me about 4 1/2 hours running at 22K so when you try to get together with people from far north & south it a long trip for a regular weekend.

I think Goat Locker was thinking about the Chesapeake BAY BRidge.

Goat Locker must have been thinking about the US Rt. 13 Chesapeake Bay "Bridge-Tunnel" ... the one that is 18 or 19 miles long, and relatively close to Norfolk. Actually, it's really close. The southern end of the Bridge Tunnel makes landfall near the Norfol/ Virginia beach line.
But ... van lafermine is referring to the Rt. 50/301 Bridge (William Prseton Memorial Bridge) much farther noth up in Maryland oin the northern Chesapeake.

Not sure what river Goat Locker was referring to.

Sorry, my bust. I wasnt paying attention. Please forgive my ignorance.

No ignorance invloved, GL. We just dont want you to be our navigator in the future...

No problem GL! I just hope you dont use the excuse that you cant attend because you live in MN. Unless of course, the ice isnt out by July.

has anyone ever went to river walk in Yorktown they have floating piers, mooring balls and anchorage a hotel and shops restaurants and of course the battlefield just a thought. We go there for the fire works on the fourth. or bay creek in Cape Charles. But p-town and Norfolk are kind of a let down for us we live in Va. Bch. and dock our boat 60 miles from there to get away from all the DA## ski boats and PWC's

I am still open if we can do it the weekend of
July 17th and 18th. We will be in the area for our vacation cruise.

Someone from that area would have to set it up. I am not familiar with anything in that area. Personally I would prefer a nice location with a pool and easy walking distance to area attractions.

That'd be Bluewater.

haha that was good. that would be a short hop for us about 3 hrs at 14 knots.
and looking at some of the post there's room and water for my boat on the other side of 64. we like to anchor out that's what the floating condo is all about..

Scroll Northeast to Settlers Landing Road (Route 143/60). The place with no boats in the slips is the City Dock at Hampton. You can anchor across from it (SW of Joy's Marina)

I see a lot of boats both power and sail anchored off Sage Court. That is a no wake zone and is patrolled vigorously.

HTH.

that's room enough for my little boat, so what's near by besides eats and drinks..

Cousteau Museum. VA Air and Space Museum. Ft. Monroe is right across the bay. I believe there is a bus from Hampton to Monroe. Outdoor concerts depending on the weekend.

Since No one has planned a trip I have scheduled my summer vacation. starting July 17th 2 nights at Bay Creek in Cape Charles,2 nights at Watermans in Norfolk, meeting our yachtclub for 10days on the Rappahannak at Tides inn for 3 nights, back to the James river and Kingsmill for 4nights and finally up to Sommers Cove Marina for 4ngts in Crisfield.
