Sorry but it has been a long time since i was on the Hrcc pages. I am on Long Island and last time I took a trip to Kingston I lost an engine and had a very expensive trip and 16 hours to get home on 1 screw. Time heels all wounds.
I just took my son to hockey camp at west point and decided I would love to return up the river and stay at a nice marina in the park if it exists. Last trip we stopped at haverstraw and then went straight to kingston. I love boating but like the mountains too. Anywhere in Bear Mountain Park to enjoy a couple days.
thanks

No marina at Bear Mountain, or anywhere close to it.

You can anchor just south of the dock at Bear Mountain and then dink to the dock. Two problems though...one, it's a good hike up the hill to Bear Mountain Park proper, two, your dink might not be there when you come back.

...and three, the water is very deep, the current runs strong and the holding is not so good, so even if your dink is there, your boat may not be...

The bay just south of the bridge on the western side is ok to anchor in.

just north of west point, on the east shore, is the Village of Cold Spring. The boat club there accepts transients, and the village is quaint for a few hours or a days' stay. Rumor is that they limit transients to 30'ers or so --

If you dinked into bear mountain, I'd be afraid the hasidics would steal your dink while you walked around. They are all over that place this year and have no respect for your personell property.

The Hasidic's can often be found at Haverstraw walking the dock's asking boaters to take them out for a ride.

We know of several people who have returned to thier boats , to find unwelcomed guest sitting on board.

Great security over there ;)

BTW - Pete - I heard some news. Best of luck with your new endeavour. Do they get the Sox games down there?

Rob;

Yeah, security is great. Every weekend the gate is proped open so nobody will be troubled as they enter.

Thanks for the kind thought. It's time for us to leave here. Work is slow and life just seems better in the south. The climate is better and it will take me 12 years to pay the same property tax that I pay here in one year, and SC does not tax retirement $$, so it seems like a no brainer.

We found a nice marina with all the amenities of Haverstraw but less than 200 boats. Best yet it is 5 minutes from the home.

As far as the Sox go, as long as there is a satalite in view, there is a Red Sox game!!

Pete, sounds like a great move. I'll bet the dockage is a lot cheaper, too!

Remember, you'll always be welcome at HRCC, no matter where you boat. Don't be a stranger!

After hearing some of the stories about "unwelcome guests", it sure makes me glad I boat up in Kingston!!! When somebody we don't like comes along, we just get the banjo out [:-mischievous] ...

Hogan had Michael Jackson sitting on his boat one night, stole his london broil out of the cooler too.

You have a personal experience with this?

Not with a dink, but my wife had a similar run in with a few of them in the spring at Bearr Mountain.

Sorry to come off so negeative, but Bear Mountain was a favorite for me growing up and recently they have moved in there and made it an unpleasant place to be. The park is left with garbage everywhere and not the kindest peaple wandering around.

Yes, but that happened on Long Island!
