I have a 2001 sea ray 245 weekender. It has Bennett v351 trim tab unit that has decided to start leaking this weekend while we are spending three days on the boat. After googling and some helpful articles I have learned some but still need help.

The leak is in the engine compartment. It appears to be coming from the hpu and dripping down the wall of my engine compartment where it is mounted. I set both tabs to “bow down"/fully extend and drove around for the morning. The starboard tab has retracted some on its own. I believe some seals are replaceable, and some are not. Is this a sign of a seal I can replace? If so which one? Is there anything else I need to diagnose first and if so how.

Thanks!!!

I would remove the HPU top cover cover and look carefully at the parts # 3,9 & 13 :

( Fill plug, stbd solenoid valve ,and stbd tubing connections.)
Something may be a little loose, or plug ajar. I don't recall if the solenoid valves have an o-ring seal or just a tapered thread.

Note , with tabs fully retracted the ATF fluid level should normally be at the top of the MAX fill line , not topped up,

We had a slight connector leak from HPU to a line. After a long fruitless trip by car to a well stocked marine supply, I found the right repair terminal at the local Home Depot. A ferrule-like part but with an insert that controls outside crush with a little interior insert.

Call Bennett!! They have fantastic customer service. Too bad Tabman isn't still here.

It does not appear to be the connection to the lines. But I’ll double check that.

I came across a guy that goes by tabman on a sea ray forum! Maybe the same guy?! Seems super helpful and knowledgeable !!!
