There's an interesting thread on boat designers' look-pretty impracticalities, with lots of thoughts on silly and poorly-thought-out boat features.
We fall squarely into the nonboating boat designer/builder category, (little sailboats don't count, right?) and have a lot to learn. What other design, layout, and safety features, should we consider as we go? A collection of best-boat-design ideas, convenience-genius, and if-I-ran-the-zoo ideas you'd incorporate if the manufacturer hired you, things small and great, would be a super help, as we power-boating newbies fumble our way along building our one-of-a-kind houseboat.
(We're almost finished with the 16x50 catamaran hulls and main deck. The 'house' part will leave a 24" walkway all the way around. We plan to have a helm inside the cabin, as well as a fly-bridge topside.)
Thanks!
