We are planning on picking up a 1987 34X Silverton in West Islip, LI and will be motoring her up to the Peekskill area on the Hudson next weekend.
Forgive me if this is silly question: What would be the best route to take from West Islip to get to the mouth of the Hudson? BTW the boat does has GPS and Radar.
TIA
Robert

If the weather is good, go out Jones Inlet, head west to the Verrazano Bridge, then north up the Hudson.

yup............ if its snotty.......stay inside and go out Rockaway Inlet.....

If the weather is good I'd go out Fire Island inlet and not have to deal with all the channels on the way to Jones if you're not familiar with the area. From West Islip you can run east to Bay Shore, head south in West Channel and then west out the inlet. That would put you in all wide channels with deep water (for this area) and some room for error. Also no 'no wake' zones that way.

Thank you for the thoughts.
Any idea on time from West Islip to the mouth of the Hudson if we run around 20 knots?
I know it will be very different depending on which route we take.
I was thinking that it would be around 3 - 4 hrs?
