I am taking a Biz trip to Beverly, MA on a weekday – via the LI Ferry that gets me to New London Ct at 8:30AM.
My GPS tells me to take 95 through Providence and then 93 past Boston- BUT I should be in the middle of rush hour!!!

So should I take 395/90/95 ?

Anything better in rush hour?

If you are not getting to New London until 8:30, then you should be after rush hour for both Providence & Boston.

It's a roll of the dice... New London to Providence takes an hour, or a couple of seconds less. Downtown Providence traffic is always the pits - so just south of Providence, take 295 North and rejoin 95, north of Providence. At the I-95/Route 128 junction, bearing right takes you to 93 North thru the tunnel, underneath Boston and on to Beverly. That's the shorter distance but it will still have heavy northbound traffic at that hour and it could take you all day. Going left is Route 128 and 95 north and will deliver you directly to Beverly. It's longer, distance wise, but the bulk of the traffic is going in the opposite direction. Boston drivers make all this subject to change so half-way between Providence and Boston, check traffic on WBZ (1030 AM) for updates "on the 3's" x:03, x:13, x:23 etc.
Good luck. It never works according to plan...

I have done that trip plenty of times. Go straight thru Prov on 95n, at that time of day it will be fine baring any accidents. 295 takes you a good bit out of the way. I would go 128/95 around Boston. It's not that much of a diversion and 128 will run you right into Beverly instead of. At that time of day, traffic should be managable.

My $0.02 worth!
Take Block Island sound into Buzzards Bay. Go through canal into Cape Cod Bay. Continue north through Stellwagen Bank and on into Massachusetts Bay. Then head towards the North Shore and look for signs Cape Ann. This way you will definitly avoid rush hour traffic! :-)

but what route is best for a new 150MPH BMW?

Steve
I agree this should avoid the traffic
Please FedeX your Amex card for fuel and I will pick you up at Ceder Island on the way

Andy, it gets confusing up here though...once you are on 95 (you'll take 95 north towards NH north of Boston), you'll then stay straight onto 128 north towards Gloucester. 95 will bear to the right to NH and Maine. But the exit numbers on 128, when going north, actually go DOWN.

So, did you make the trip? Which way did you go? How did it work out? C'mon... People wanna know - people are talking... If you haven't made the ride yet, we New Englanders should meet you for an adult beverage in Boston on your way back!

Not yet – will do it early next week --going to Beverly, MA than Waltham for lunch with one of my larger enterprise clients, then meeting a perspective new employee there, then maybe stopping by a new biz partner in Bedford and finally a run to Bridgeport for the ferry back to LI—It would be great to stop by and have one(or many) with you but it’s a long day and I have to get back for the next day of work

Right now the plan is to take the 95/128 rte

I will be running up to you neck of the woods often over the next months - and if we can get together the first round is on me
