Now that we have made the purchase of a broader beam boat, can anyone help with advice on just where it will fit on Fire Island next season. The beam is 14' 11" on this 46' 11" LOA.

Rich.........I know Watch Hill has some " big boy " slips with 50amp/220V service.....on the north dock. But to better answer your question.....John C & Rob are the experts on big slips.
 
Rob and I aren't telling, we need those slips for ourselves :D

My beam is 14'5" and the only place I've gone to on Fire Island since buying this boat is Watch Hill. There are 10 slips I fit into, but 4 of them are pretty close so it would be real tight (but probably doable) at 14'11". The other 6 should be plenty big. There are plans to add more big slips where the current 'day slips' are but that seems to keep getting pushed back and I'm not sure if it's now a 2008 or 2009 project.

I think there's a couple slips at Sailor's Haven you can fit in but I haven't been there in a while. I'm not too familiar with the other docks by the towns.

Seriously ... its difficult watchhill sailors has very few slips that accomodate large beam boats. Then take into consideration slip sitters. ( people that dont move there freaking boats ) and we have problems. YEs there are rules... nobody applies them ......
 
By this coming season I should be retired, soooooo I'll try to save you guys some slips on FI. LOL

I'm also in Freeport now, but we are considering relocation to SS3 where the boat was when we purchased it. Any comments on that marina or the area or something better?

If you plan on keeping that boat at SS3. Plan on writing a big check. It's a good marina with a good location, but they are expensive.
 
Try the Anchorage (across the canal from Surfside) If your serious you should call now, slips that size are hard to come by.

Do you know if there are any slips wide enough available at Anchorage?

I also wish to check out others in the area, but the Admiral liked the gated security of the north end of SS3 and the fact that the car would be right at the boat.

Hey Rich: You might want to email me via PM and I can fill in some of the gaps regarding SS3.
I was there for 2 summers. I am also sure that there are a few others on this site who would be more than happy to tell you what a great place it is.

You need to call them, all slips at the Anchorage you drive right up too the slip and park there, you can also have a picnic table with a BBQ, behind your boat.

Also,
If you need to dump your holding tank, Don's canal is a short distance away. :)

Yeah....just be sure you lock your car and take anything of value with you !!!
