See bottom of thread for update:

Okay, Mike gave me permission to put this info up here because both of us feel that all of the HRCC ROs are too broke to afford one of these things (if I'm wrong pleeeeeaaase send me a PM ;)) - Sunsation Boats has asked Mahopac Marina to host their entry in the upcoming New York City Poker Run (to be held June 16) - a brand new $800,000 2008 43 foot model F-4 Poker Run Edition that goes 105MPH. Sounds like a nice, quiet, serene boat.........NOT!!!

Anyway, the boat will be on display to anybody who wants to gawk at it on Thursday, June 14 here at Mahopac Marina (897 S. Lake Blvd/Route 6N, Mahopac) between 10AM and 5PM. Its the only one of its kind anywhere in the eastern half of the country save for a couple of prototypes in south Florida and I think the company plans to make something like 10 of them per year, so its pretty unique. So if you want an excuse to take an afternoon off from work please come on by and enjoy our local hospitality - we promise to leave our banjos at home for the afternoon!!!

The boat is only here for ONE day, June 14. Friday it heads to the Hudson for a final tuneup before the poker run and so Sunsation can do a few demo rides for prospective customers, and then Saturday is the big day...

PS - FYI, the NYC Poker Run is a 75 mile run from Liberty Landing in NJ up to Haverstraw Marina and back on Saturday, June 16. Rain date is Sunday, June 17...

So just what is the definition of "afford?" I thought the keyword, or perhaps operative words, were "can you pay for it!" Back when I was a youngster there was a song called MAYBELLINE, and one of the lines from that song was "next time I get me a car, I'm gonna get one I can afford, and when I say a FORD, I mean a FORD."

So while this Sunsation sounds like a bit more than a Ford (do I dare say SeaRay so it is apples to apples [:-apple])I would bet there are some HRCC'ers who could "pay for it!" Then again you didn't mention how many it would sleep!

Is the Poker Run going to be an improvement over last year? Last year's event was a disappointment relative to prior years.

I heard there is no more "King of the Hudson" so I presume all the boats will be going slower, like last year :-(.

Glad I saw it two years ago, when it was like sitting in the middle of the track at a NASCAR race!

I'd much rather take the new 48EC Fountain. But, if you're making a Poker Run up the Hudson I hope your engine is a diesel LOG SPLITTER :)

Geez, I hope that nobody hits a log during this race! You guys probably know more about speedboats and speedboat races than I do - even though I work for a dealer I get only limited knowledge when somebody comes in to buy one of these things. Ask me about runabouts and cabin cruisers and I'm a lot more "at home"...

But this event sounds like fun, even for us non-speed types. And that 43 sounds like an amazing vessel. Its amazing how a bunch of goofy guys can settle down in a place like Algonac Michigan and start building big-time performance boats. Then again a guy named Chris Smith did the exact same thing in the exact same place about 100 years ago. The result? Chris-Craft...

We are not filming it this year. Well at least not at the finish line for ESPN. We have done for the past few years but the boat is going to Montauk for the Shark tournament.

2 years ago was incredible with the speed of the boats. Since we had the camera they would come real close to us. You could smell the fuel and get sprayed by their wakes. Awesome.

Just a reminder that the F-4 is HERE!!! It is going to be open for viewing all day Thursday, then it heads to the River Friday to get ready for the big race. The boat is rather ominous looking with its black and green custom paint job and matching trailer. All I know is I'd hate to be the one that has to drive the truck pulling this thing around!!!

Pete,
Is 5:00pm a hard stop for viewing? Not sure I'll be able to get away from work in time to get down there, but I'd like to get a look. Will you post some pics for us?

Burgs, I'm not sure what time the boat is leaving, because the marina usually closes at 5PM and that's why the viewing hours were set up. If they're not taking it out of here right away I usually am here for awhile after 5 so I could hang out and wait for you, but they might be moving the boat to the River by then.

If you want, call me at 845-628-6550 say around 4:30 or so and I'll let you know what they're doing with the boat by then...

Otherwise I'll post pics as soon as I have them. And it will be written up in The Journal News too...

Thanks Pete, but unfortunately it's not looking like a good day here for me to count on getting out at any particular time. Looking forward to the pics though.

I'll get pics as soon as possible. Also The Journal News is supposed to have it in the paper tomorrow...

Oh, and it was a pleasure meeting Victoria's Secret Bill and the family today! Thanks for stopping by. I hope you had a nice ride around Lake Mahopac. See you on the River :) !!!

Thanks Pete it was great to put a face with the name. We also did enjoy seeing that fast green machine, and the ride around the lake (by car)..... Next time I hope to see you on the river as well..
