Bilge Blower Engine Compartment

Have 1988 Carver 3227 Convertible. Bilge blower in engine compartment finally craped out. Can any other owner of a 3227 tell me where blower is located and the size? Put boat away for the season shortly after it quit. Haven't had a chance to trace it back. Waiting for spring now.
 
should be easy to spot... you dont' really need to trace the wiring, just the ducts... they should extend down the deepest part of the bilge and go to the blower. shoudlnt' be too far from the side vents on the hull.

obvioulsy check the breaker/fuse before assuming it needs to be replaced, and check for power reaching the blower.

also, some blowers are not designed for continuous use, others are (better).
 
What's the deal on blowers BTW - are there supposed to be TWO for dual engines or just one??? I was told by a marine surveyor recently that my boat, which has only one blower in it, is not up to standards...
 
It seems like having one or two wouldn't matter. I would think it would be based on the capacity to move X cubic feet per minute? In other words one HUGE blower vs. two dinky ones? Of course all of that can be negated by vents and ducts that are too small to allow the air to move at desired rates anyway. I believe I only have one in the 300 DA, but I will run out and check it. If it's different I'll revise this post.
 
My 1981 3007 has 1 blower, with 2 hoses leading to it in a Y configuration. I use that along with a bilge sniffer at the helm, and have never had to wait more than a minute or two for the green light to appear.
 
My 1985 3607 has two, the blower switch in the lower cabin runs the port side and the blower switch on the fly bridge runs the starbord side.
Don't know if the boat originaly came that way but the instalation looks to be original.
 
I think it was our own Al Prisco who told me that a boat needs to have as many blowers as it has engines in order to meet current ABYC standards...
 
My 3257 has two blowers just forward of each engine sitting in the bottom of the bilge. The port side blower Blows air in, the Starboard blower sucks air out. They have 3 inch hoses. The stock blowers which came from the factory were 4 inch blowers with an adapter to a 3 inch hose.

If I was going to re-do the blowers, I would have two blowers, one under each engine both exhausting out the starboard side. Gas fumes will settle to the lowest part of the bilge, so you want the blowers inlet as low as you can get it.
 
On my '85 3227 the blowers are located outboard of each engine and accomodate 3" hose.
 
On my boat the port side blower is behind the A/C in the salon which is behind the panel behind the salon couch. Look where you would least expect it!
