I haven't been in a while and know a lot of things have changed. So, my question is where in the Biminis and Berrys are the best places to buy diesel?

Actually, if you know of a marina with both diesel and a dive shop to fill SCUBA tanks on site, please let me know as well.

Thanks,
Bob

diesel is available at Great Harbor Cay and at Chub. Personally i find Chub to be over rated and nothing more than a stop on the way to Nassau and the Exumas. Great Harbor has much cheaper dockage and while the docks are not as new the manager is very freindly and helpful.

There is also a lot more to explore around GH compared to chub.

Bimini: havnet' refueled there but diesel is available, not sure what the price is.

in any case, be ready to pay $1 to $1.50 extra per gallons in the bahamas

Regarding the diesel prices. We paid 4.15 last month in Marsh.
So, hum that jingle.....
"It's better in the Bahamas". Come to da Bahamas mon, where you can find better but you can't pay more.

Early April we are headed to Lucaya, and thence South. At least that's the plan at this point.

Spending the night here at Chub and possibly tomorrow depending on this weather, before heading on to Harbor Island.....

From the looks of it Sea Crest in Alice Town doesn't have a fuel dock? Is that right?

Bob

If you get to the Chub/Frazer's Hog Cay, check out the Berry Islands Club on the east end of Frazer's. Very laid back and much more true "out island" than Chub.

I was looking at that place with Goggle Earth and charts. How protected is it from North or East winds? It looks like it could get lumpy in there. I like the idea of stopping there but I was a bit concerned given we may be going at end of April into May. But then it can't be much worse than Orchid Bay in a westerly, or Harbour View in a North East wind. I'm looking for a place to hang if the trip to Nassau is delayed by weather.

Bob,

After your fantastic conversion you just wanted to be able to ask where to buy diesel didn't you :-)

I'm jealous and hoping to be able to ask that in the not so distant future...

If you look at a chart closely you'll see that it's protected from anything out of the due N or NW. But open to the NE or E. They had moorings in out front of the place last time I was there.

To get out of anything bad out of the E I'd look at anchoring behind Bird Cay or Whale depending on your draft. Or you could anchor at or stay in Chub.

That's pretty much what I was thinking based on our charts. Given the depth is shallow in those anchorages I'd be concerned staying on the hook at either since we pull 3.5 feet. Hopefully we get a two day window for the trip to Nassau.

LOL, well, it does have a certain amount of appeal. But, I actually am putting together a trip plan for May. I haven't cruised the Biinis and Berrys for several years so wanted some more current information.

But, I will need far fewer fueling points than the last time I was there. :)

The Seacrest does not have a fuel dock.

Next door is the Bluewater which has a fuel dock.

You might want to call and check on their diesel inventory levels before making your plans.

So what's the favorite hang in the Bimini's? I'm looking for a good spot to "top off" a trip to the Bahamas.

i like Seacrest, it's right in alice Town, across from the liquor store where you can stock up on cheap rum! :)

easier to clear customs too. if you want the fancy resort, then Bimini Bay is the place to go.

I've never been to Bimini Sands (on South Bimini) but i've heard it's nice. they have fuel too.

We're not looking for fancy high end places. A clean place with a good crowd and reasonable rum works well :D

Pascal, do you know if Bimini Bay or Blue Water has the on site dive shop? Some years ago I used to get SCUBA tanks filled there but don't know if it is still there or not. Can't find any reliable information.

The Bimini Bay resort is very nice with a high end swimming pool, bar/restaurant and a nice game room right at the marina. The marina is spectacular with floating concrete docks etc. We previously stayed at the Bimini Big Game Club which has a lot of character. It was getting a bit run down as of a year ago but they a have big pool, bar etc.

They do have a dive shop on site at the big game club. We stayed there the summer before last and the big game club was looking pretty thin as many of the transients have moved to Bimini Bay resort and marina. The dive shop owner is quite friendly and helpful.
