It is a long story, but the Department of Homeland Security's Customs and Boarder Control made the decision some time ago that ships like the Superfast cannot take "cruises to nowhere" without a crew that was 100% either US citizens or with visas from the USA to allow them to work in the United States.

As the Superfast was offering gambling cruises as part of the business model (in the early days of operations), those cruises did not call on a foreign port and were therefore in violation of US law according to DHS and CBP.

Even though the gambling cruises have been discontinued, RWBimini filed a lawsuit due to the opinion that this option needed to be available during the winter months when docking in Bimini may not be possible. RW Bimini lost the case.

The last sailing took place this week.

Although one poster on this board has constantly and chronically critical of this vessel, it was the only reasonably priced option for mere mortals to go over and enjoy the folks, food and gin clear waters of the Bimini chain.

It was only reasonably priced if you stayed aboard. It was even reasonable booking the deluxe staterooms below the bridge as your breakfast and dinner were included.

Taking a seaplane and staying at the Hilton will not be remotely reasonable from a cost perspective.

The Superfast employed quite a few folks aboard and dockside. The dockside personnel were either US citizens or green card holders.

She will be missed by many.

RW has been dishonest from the start and tried to force their illegal cruises to nowhere using foreign crew and ship They knew very well that landing in BIM Using launches would be a problem They tried to salvage their poorly planned operation by building a 1000' pier destroying reefs and beaches in the process

Flights from FTL can be found that are pretty reasonable and the Hilton isn't the only option.

Sadly resort world has destroyed bimini and made it a lot more expensive like charging $10 for a bag of ice...

Good riddance

Airfare FLL/BIM roundtrip is 241 pp currently.

I don't know of any hotel less than $100 per night.

In July 2015 the price was $464 all in for two, included two nights in a deluxe stateroom on the ship, lunch and dinner on departure day, breakfast and dinner on day 2 + breakfast on departure day. Did not see any of the folks from a certain city in Miami-Dade exhibiting the bad behavior that you slammed in one of your prior posts about the island.

It was as the British say "good value for money".

For those without a vessel or a big budget it was a great opportunity for some fun in the sun and to snorkle Sapona and Turtle Rocks.

As for the pier, I do not recall any reefs in that location, 3 sisters rocks were not disturbed and the beach is very fine on either side of the pier.

I do not see how Resorts World can survive without the vessel and hope that this does not result in even more pain for the Bahamians living in Bimini if the resort business fails altogether.

Sadly biminites didn't benefit from the project. If anything ugly has sucked life out of Alice town as most RW guests don't spend a dime in Alice town

It s dusty, dirty, and clearly suffering. Apparently most labor is imported, not from bimini

Last time we went, Labor Day, there was really no beach left near th pier and we had to go around the north point to the NE beach to anchor and give our guests a taste of th bahamas. Before RW you could get on a golf cart, drive up along a shady path along miles of pristine beach

Ok so my Hialeah special comment was a bit insensitive and politically incorrect. Maybe. For herr in Miami it s kind of a joke even the Cubans use :)

Seriously, Everytime we Ve taken guests to BIM in the last few years they were disappointed and we had to explain how there is more to the bahamas than the new bimini

I guess RW needs to decide if they want to cater to the budget crowd or to those willing to spend a little more. They re partnered with Hilton (hardly a budget chain), sold villas and town homes to buyers at a premium price, built high end restaurants and an expensive marina yet were trying to bring budget tourism

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Remembering all the fun and exciting trips to Bimini in the "Old Days".
You Guys are making me CRY.[:-cry]
