Curious about what folks are paying - and getting - for their monthly slips along the Delta.

I'm at San Rafael on the bay and pay a fairly high rate...maybe. Maybe not - let's see. Here's what I get:

The marina itself is exceptionally well maintained. Has a good restaurant, lots of parking, a great grocery store, harbor master is always around for help, well dredged regardless of tides, and a solid sea wall so no swells or waves whatsoever get through, gas pumps, waste pump station, bait shop.

All docks are like new. We get a large dock box, individual fresh water, individual electricity 30amp separately metered. Each dock has card access gated security, and there is 24 hour roaming security.

Live aboard is not allowed but the overnight allowance is very generous. I have gorgeous views from my boat.

For this I pay $280 monthly for a 34 foot slip, plus roughly $25 for electricity.

So, how does this compare to what folks enjoy up river?

You've got a steal! A comparable marina would be Willow Berm and they charge around $400/mo. Others can give more details since several of our ROs berth there [not birth!].

I'm in a small private marina on Bethel Island. Here's what I get for $195/mo: well maintained shed with 9 slips; plenty of parking; harbor master lives at property; excellent security; no liveaboards allowed. Near gas dock, restaurants, bait shop; everyone is on one meter with 15/30 amp at each slip, included in rent; within "no wake zone", but........ Shed is gated and we each have a key. Here's the view from my boat.......

Berth. Thank you.

Sounds like you have a deal! You're more than $100 per month better off than I am, and that translates into my fuel. Be very interesting to see what others have to say...

It took me a bit to translate the subject you put in ;>)

I really like where I berth......often I am the only boater there on weekends. Go figure!

I am in Discovery Bay and pay $225 per month with that also covers $7 for electricity for a 30 ft slip. I have only gone over the $7 once. We have the Yacht Club, Bayside Bar and Grill, and numerous other shops up on the boardwalk as well as gas, diesel, propane, and holding tank pump out.

That's a surprise - I would have expected Discovery Bay to be one of the most expensive spots. Are you covered or exposed? It'd be nice to be covered, but I often enjoy the evenings and view just sitting on my boat and a covered slip would ruin that.

Covered is the way to go, for sure! If you have a view it isn't going to be straight up! Having a little shade in the heat of the day and being able to stay dry during the rain is really nice!

I keep my boat at Tiki Lagun, near Stockton. It has some nice features but I can't really recommend it right now. New owners took over three years ago, hired new harbor master two years ago and it has been going straight downhill since then. They fired the people who new what they were doing, got rid of the night time security, etc.

Tiki has three sets of "new" docks and one set of old docks. The new docks are steel posts with concrete deck, really nice! They have pump outs at your slip (when it works). Concrete docks used to be full, but plenty of spaces now.

The old wood docks are, well, old.

Tiki has a campground that charges way too much for a spot. Used to be packed full all summer but latest managment has cured that problem too. Now there is no problem getting a campsite any weekend you want, including Labor day!

Parking is a real problem. Perhaps not as much of a problem as when the campgrounds were full, but the totally irrational, unwritten and inconsistant rules about the parking is just totally unpleasant to the regulars. Don't be surprised when they suddenly decide to charge your guests $10 a day to park.

The launch ramp is a joke. It is possible to launch at high tide but if you want to get your ski boat out at low tide you may have to run down the road to another ramp.

They have a gas dock but the store is way up the levee and no attendant at the dock. Tie up, walk way up to the store, walk way back to gas, walk back to the store, then walk back to your boat. Make sure you have shoes, the wood dock is not in good shape.

The store has ice and a small amount of supplies.

The harbor master has decided it isn't his responsibility to keep the weeds and debris out of the waterways to the dock so every year it keeps getting harder to get in and out.

They used to have an easy formula for the cost of a slip but now it appears to be however much they feel like and if they like you or not. I am guessing that a 30 foot slip on the new docks would be around $225 a month, plus electricity.

The lastest bit of madness that was mailed out in the last "newsletter" is that they don't allow washing your boat with fresh water anymore. You can use the firehose if you want, which I guess pumps from a different source than the potable water.

abdiver, that is really a shame to hear! Expect the place to go into bankruptcy within the next 3-4 years. I've seen this happen at other places which were mismanaged. I think Spindrift has a few open slips if you want to consider relocating.

We're at Driftwood, close to the Antioch bridge. We have a yacht club at the marina (although we're not members), but no 'public' restaurant. We're paying $255 for a covered slip that includes water and electricity. Not a lot of amenities, I know, but we really like our 'neighbors',it's close to home, and it's a quiet place - which is a bonus when we stay overnight.

I agree with abdiver. I'm also at Tiki Lagun in a covered berth and love it. I have been able to do repairs on the boat while it's raining without getting soaked and I can still see the sunrises and sunsets each day.

I believe the going rate there is $310.00 for a 40' covered on the newer concrete docks.

What dock are you on abdiver?

We are currently paying $187 for a side tie. No amenities other than the normal showers and bathrooms. We will be moving to a covered berth at Spindrift. 40' for $345 a month. They do have a gas dock and store. I haven't seen the berth yet so I can't comment on the condition of the docks.

Sprindrift is an older wooden framed marina. The docks are well maintained and clean, painted light blue, an old Spindrift tradition. Gas dock, store, great restaurant and restrooms located in the marina sheds. http://www.spindriftmarina.com/

We currently berth at Willowberm in a 50 ft. covered slip. We have pump out fittings in every other slip and the staff pumps us out mid week. There is a club house with large screen TV, a kitchen, dining area and a work out room with treadmills, ellipticals, weight equipment, etc. There are two restaurants within walking distance and a small chandlery also within walking distance. There is gas and diesel available (if you have deep pockets). We also have lots of nice landscaping and a barbecue and picnic table(s) for each boat shed.

For all this, we pay $660 per month and it has been increasing about 5% per year. I've been told that it will continue to increase annually until they start getting vacancies.

Almost all of the berthing in Discovery Bay is covered. I had my boat at a friends house for a couple of months and it was horrible with all the birds that perch on the bowrail and do their business all over the boat. I dont think I could ever go back to having my boat uncovered.

Commander Toasty, Hate to nickpik, but it's spelled "berth"

Hogan,
I hate to be obvious, but that has already been noted and acknowledged.;)

We have been at Bethel Island for several years. Our marina is the last [or first} marina in the no wake zone. We get a good view of Mt. Diablo and the Antioch bridge. The cost for the covered slip is $225 plus $7 for electricity.

2manyhorses, did that marina used be known as Leisure Landing?

Looks like I have a pretty good deal and I'm happy there!

Flutterby, it used to be Leisure Landing. Hasn't been the same since Harbor masters Bud and Elien left but we still like it there.

The same owners purchased Beacon Harbor a few years ago. I hear horrible things about it; most of my friends have moved their boats. They have dropped their rates to $75/mo. Not sure what that includes. It is a very conveniently located marina with showers on the docks; a nice restaurant nearby and they have a gas dock. They have a nice campground and dry storage as well. If you pay for 1 yr in advance, you get a discount.

Does anyone berth at Sugar Barge?
