Went with a buddy to Sandy Hook Reef area today.

Rough and windy in the morning but flattened out and the wind died down to nothing by early afternoon.

12 keepers Blackfish, 11 went home, 10 or 11 shorts thrown back.

6 Stripers and one Sea Bass, all shorts.

One great day of fishing.

If you guys know Blackfishing you know what I mean when I say it was a great day.

Never heard of a blackfish. Is it something indigenous to the north east?

The best.

Blackfish is my favorite whitemeat fish.

They eat crabs and shellfish primarily, so they taste like what they eat.

I'll have to go looking for them next year. Sandy hook is right around the corner. That sounds awesome.

Enjoy,

Hmmmmm, my wife's grandfather, the one who owned and ran a fishing resort here in Washington for 30 odd years used to go fishing for blackfish. They never got one to my knowlege. I'm pretty sure what they called a blackfish and what you call a blackfish are different things. He would bring a 10 guage harpoon gun with him. Something about the blackfish eating all the salmon...

Blackfish are AKA Toutog or Tog.

Probably not the same as West Coast Blackfish!!!

I think Frank's old blackfish now have names like "free willy". Times have changed.

Nice fish! They are my favorite fish too. Especially sushi!

Hoping the winds die down tomorrow, going back to my secret spot and hope to fill the box again.

I think Blackfish is the toughest fish get coax into coming in the boat.

A true challenge, nothing easy with these goobers!!!!

Fresh fish dinner is cookin' right now..........

Those 'Black Fish' are little whales. There'd be three to seven of them rolling in the Puget Sound waters sometimes.
I never got a good look at one, but whenever they showed up the Salmon quit biting and dissapeared.
I always meant to look them up and see if they really did eat Salmon. I always doubted it though!

Those Black Fish Robyns Nest have do not look like the Black Cod we have on the Pacific coast. They scales arent large enough.
But that's a nice mess of fish you got there. Wish I'd have been along with you.
