Well since your thinking of changing your trip, I would consider Greenport as a destination. There is plenty to do, Great little town, good food and good docking. If you don't want to stay right in town, The Townsend Marina if a great place to stay or the Sterling. Both have a pool. Also to change the scenery, you can run over to Sag Harbor or Shelter Island for the day.

Ditto

I did think of Newport I think it might be a push for time. However I haven't considered Greenport I'm not sure I ever been there if I have it's pushing 25 years and just don't remember. I have to look up to see whats there and whats to do. I appreciate the input any other thoughts are welcome. I only have about a week in total for the trip and two nights are already booked at Saybrook. The first leg is a long ride In the past I always stopped at a mid point for a night, someplace like Norwalk but I'd rather go the extra distance to a nicer port. I guess I should pull out the charts and figure out the time and distance. This boat is not as fast as the last, I hope it's realistic. I better go get the laptop and create the route like the nut the I am.

Double Ditto.

We've done that town and had a great time. There are a number of day trips in and around the area.
Shelter Island, Cochles (sp?) Harbor and the marina there in, is a very pleasant stop. While the entrance to the harbor might be a bit intimidating, it's easy to stay in the "blue water". They have a courtesy car at the marina to take you into town as I recall but it has been a while.

Be aware that if the wind is blowing out of the southeast, Old Saybrook can be rockin' and rollin'.

I didn't pick the first stop but it sounds nice so I'm game but I did hear the same it could be a little rough at dock. In the past I have gone further in to Essex both Brewers and Essex Island both were nice. I fact I was at Brewers during the last big black out that hit the east coast. There I was try to get power at the dock all piss off that it wasn't working only to find out how wide spread the problem was good thing for generators.
From your picture above any suggestions.

If you stay at marinas 1 and 2, it's not so easy to get to town if you plan on walking.

It's a little bit of a hike.

A dinghy or car ride is what you need.

1 & 2 are the Brewers marinas, they have a shuttle that will take you to town. #1, Stirling Harbor, is much nicer than #2.

We always stay at #3. Townsend is only a 10-12 minute walk to the edge of town. The marina is not very big so the place stays quiet. The grounds are very shady the restrooms and showers are good. They have a pool with an outdoor snack shack and bar and a restaurant that serves breakfast with an indoor bar. The walk to town goes by fast while looking at all the interesting houses and once your in town, there are plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and scenery to keep you busy. At Mitchell's park in the evening, they usually have some type of performance/music and there is an old fashion merry-go-round to ride. See if you can grab the Brass Ring and get a free ride :-)

#4 would be like going to Champlin's, without the rafting,no privicy, loud and rocky.

#5 nice docks, right in the middle of town, no privicy, rocky at times.

#3 gets my vote. Not a fan of old saybrook. ( essex island much more preffered )

Just my 2 cents.

Rob
