Boat accident in the Delta

According to the report on KCRA News, they were all of Mexican descent; many of the family members could not speak English. Why in the world were TEN men in a 14ft aluminum boat? They said they were fishing. Really? What were they really doing? I doubt it was anything which was legal. Maybe smuggling illegals?
 
10 people in a 14 foot - that would be like trying to see how many people can get into a phone booth! The guy they are holding looks big - like a 200 lb guy - what were they thinking!

Alcohol makes people do stupid things. The boat operator has been arrested because he was DUI but it seems to me that they are all equally stupid.

Would you cram yourself into an obviously overloaded boat without a life jacket in the middle of the night if you couldn't swim?

It is not like this area was treacherous waters. They couldn't have been more than 100 feet from shore. It's sad, but it is also just stupid.
