What is the best way to hook up with another cruiser for a crossing to West End? Is anyone on BE crossing over from Lake Worth around the first week in May? This is our first crossing and would prefer to cross with a Buddy Boat. Our goal is Hope Town with 30-45 days for cruising the Abacos but with no set schedule.
We can cross at 8-9 knots or 17-19 knots and would like to cross with a Buddy Boat at least to West End.
Advice needed on the best way to do this....
Thanks,

Jerry,

We'll be attempting to cross around that time for our 5th trip to the Bahamas. While we usually do it alone, we'd be happy to be your "buddy boat". We will be towing our boat from MD to FL and will arrive in Fort Pierce around 4/28. We will be in the water on 4/28-29 and probably heading south toward Lake Worth for arrival on 5/1 or 5/2. We'll be looking to cross from Lake Worth from 5/3 on, or we'll consider heading further south to wait out weather. We can run your speeds easily enough (depending on seas, of course). Feel free to contact me via e-mail via my BE profile.

BTW, Sailfish in West Palm on Thursday nights is usually a very good time!

Jerry,

Sorry I didn't see your PM until today. But a reply has been sent. Let's keep in touch and hopefully the stars and moon will align and we'll be in West End together before we both know it!

Bummer. That is when we are thinking of returning. We may cross paths on the bank or in the Stream! Most likely West End to St. Lucie if the Lake is high enough to cross then. We crossed when it was 11.5 feet without issue but sweated a few spots going East from Clewiston.

I will say that if you maintain your gear well, going across the stream is nothing worse than going across Okeechobee. Just make sure you leave room for weather and don't try to stick to a schedule if the weather does not cooperate!

Check on the lake crossing, saw a post the other day that the Waterway was closed because of a RR Bridge being out of service.

Yeah, Double Bummer....We was hoping you would stick around over there a little longer and buy us a cold one. Guess we will have to have one in downtown Ft. Myers some day.
Haven't read about any problems with Lake O but lots of NavAids being changed in April. Lake level is over 13.

My friends just past through lake O in the past 2 weeks on their 53' hatt without any problems

I was going to say there are no posts on the Notices to Nav for Okeechobee. We have been watching the lake level regularly since we would rather take that path back to the West coast.
Otherwise, the beer is COLD here at Sea Spray. :D

Get ye on o'er here!

John C. do you have a link on that closure?

Hey Dan,
Are you stopping off at West End on the way back? If so, what day do you think you will be there? Probably too early to know but just wondering.....

We haven't a clue. In fact, if the lake drops off quickly (like below 11 feet) we will go via Lucaya, Bimini and around Florida.

We crossed when it was about 11.5 and there were some very uncomfortable passages outside Clewiston. It was also shallow out of Myaka.

I'm pretty sure I bought lunch last year at Firefly, didn't I? It's time for reciprocity! :-)

Well, get on over here! We are officially short timers looking to leave early May!

With the rains that fell over central Florida, levels should stay pretty comfortable this year

Actually the level is 13.78 last I looked. We should be able to cross with anything above 11.5. Surprisingly this last bout of down pours didn't do more that .05 feet. We'll see if runoff brings it up more over the next day or so.

Yeah, it's a little nerve racking near Clewiston, especially when you have seen it at a very low level. Rock, rock, and more rock.
We hope to come through around the 27th or 28th so I'll try to remember to take some readings along the way.

And? So are you on the move and coming this way? Some folks are going to head across from here early next week. It's a little rough for us. Things may improve more in a week if Parker is correct and we get Westerlies.

Well, we were on the way but stopped in Palm City to layover and wait out the weather. It's not looking good. Met up with Mixman and we are both waiting for the seas to calm down.
Crossed Lake O Sunday morning, lowest I seen was 5 ft under the transducer so must have been 7 ft or better. Entering the Clewiston channel was the shallowest, favor the green markers going in, then right down the middle.
Just heard on the TV that Lake O area just got 5 inches of rain today.
Shouldn't be a problem......

Not only are we both in Palm City, but we're tied up at the same dock and posting via the same Wi-Fi hot-spot! :-)

Dang that was a lot of rain! We had to cook dinner below in the cabin. I'm going to smell like Omaha Steaks for days!

Where are you guys heading, abacus?

We re heading to bimini on Sunday, till wed. All work, no play though... .charter.
