Coast Guard rescues four men in boating
Four people were hurt in a boating accident off Government Cut Thursday night after their GPS failed them, Coast Guard officials wrote in a statement released to the press.
The boaters, who were attempting to return to Miami Beach, crashed their small pleasure craft into the north jetty at the Government Cut entrance at about 8:15 p.m.
Coast Guard crews from the Miami Beach station sped in their rescue boats after receiving a call from a good Samaritan, the statement said. Two men were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital and are in stable condition.

now, i really hope the CG didn't release a statement sayign the GPS failed... if so, whoever wrote that should be banned from getting within 10' of keyboards of a journalist!
how the heck do you run into the Gov Cut jetty on a cristal clear night? note that the MSN piece says they dind't appead intoxicated... there is so much light reflecting from the city that could see unlit markers on a moonless night...
there are only 2 possible reasons, both directly linked to lack of gray mass between the operator ears:
spent too much time playing with the GPS and wasnt looking outside
or had the display on full bright, possibly with other lights, destroying his night vision.
i'm alwasy amazed at how many boats i see at night with undimmed displays illumintating the helm. and others uneeded lights as well... maybe that's why all of these morons feel they have to run with spotlights on at all time!
