04-12) 19:00 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Three people were rescued this afternoon when their motor yacht caught on fire and sank in the bay about 1 mile east of Treasure Island, authorities said.
The Coast Guard dispatched two of its 41-foot utility boats about 5:18 p.m., joining three nearby vessels that sailed over to help after flames and smoke were spotted pouring from the 43-foot pleasure yacht named No Worries.
"A Good Sam came up and got them, and they were transferred to our 41-foot utility boat," said Coast Guard Petty Officer Lucas Smith.
San Francisco fire boat Phoenix put out the blaze by about 6 p.m., Smith said.
He said the cause of the fire is unknown, but could have been the result of an exhaust leak.
