A 32ish express cruise names Liquid Assets hailing out of Miami i believe, ran up on the rocks behind bannermans last week. Boat looked to be about 5 to 8 years old. I did not get the make.

I happened to be down at the Cornwall Yacht Club, where the baot was towed, and view the dammage. Largest amount of damage appears to be a basketball size hole dead on at the base of the 'V', mid ship. There is a football sized rock wedged up in the hole. Both props are trashed, but the iteresting thing was that both rudder posts sheared off just below the bushing...clean. I assume this to mean that they had corrosion issues to start and that was the weak spot. Seemed like a minimal amount of damage for what had happened.

The boat wass towed in by a towing company. i am interested to hear if they claimed salvage rights or not.

Ugh - what the Hell were they doing back there???

This should really be a poll:

a) their equipment failed and they wound up on the rocks.
b) they were boating without charts and did not know the water was shallow.
c) alcohol impaired their judgment.
d) all of the above.

That area is soooooo tempting, everytime I pass by my thought is "if we go real slow maybe it will be OK?" NOT! But it is usually like glass back there and at high tide it looks so innocent.

I have felt the same way but the charts keep me out of there every time. I guess if running gear was free I'd go for it. It's sort of like the feeling I get when I go by Bowline and consider going in :D

There is a shallow channel that goes around, at high tide and a lot of luck you can get around, now low tide is a different story.

As for me, Ill stay in the deep water...,.

I learned from all of you guys that as soon as you go adventuring, or look for a place to anchor, that is when you get into trouble. And after fulfilling that prophecy a couple times, i stay in the middle. lol.

Sounds like he was going awfully fast for ,exploring around shallow water to do so much damage .
There is a good spot to anchor on the south east side but you have to stop before heading north past the island, perhaps he saw some small boats near the anchorage or going around & just kept on going.
The low water comes up fast and well marked on the charts, hopefully no one was hurt, as interesting as it is to hear about such accidends I always feel bad for people when that happens, & wonder how it really happend.

There is a ptretty decent channel that runs from dowm near the base of breakneck mountain (near the aquaduct intake, below the railroad tunnel). It runs up past the island, favoring the mainland, and ends way to the north of the island. There are mud flats just north and south of the island and a rock wall somewhere in there. I used to run over to island atl elast once, maybe twice a day in a 13' whaler when I was a kid. The seaweed beds to the north and south of the island will slow you down before you can get back to the rock wall.

I remember someone (here?) posting a pic a few years ago, of a SeaRay - smaller 35ish sedan - stuck on one of the remnant piles (from the old bridge) in this area. Anyone else remember that shot??

You are correct but the rock pile was in the entrance to Bowline...

It just hit me but I remember seeing an older 34 Formula for sale and the name was "Liquid Assets" hailing out of Miami..

I think it was docked at Haverstraw Marina for awhile... (maybe an insurance job cause the boat I am thinking about was for sale forever...)

I had the pictures of the searay in bowline...38-40ish footer high on rock ledge in entrance. I also have a picture of a Trawler (I think) on the rock at cold springs with a few go fasts looking at it...

I'd like to see the trawler on the rock at cold spring Butch, can I find it here somewhere ?
The pictures you guys took at bowline were cool as hell ,you guys get some good shots of stuff & Butch always seems to know whats going on here and there, don't know how you do it but, sure do appreciate the info. Gov.....

Take it easy, Jon

I thought it came out around the same time/thread as the trawler in cold spring - - - sedan with a pile thru the side, looked like the back side of Bannermans . . ...

C'mon Butch, fire up that old photo server!!

I took a pic of a red trawler-like boat on the rocks just south of Cold Spring. I bet I have it at home some where. It must have been about four years ago, it was our first "big" trip up to Kingston. I remember it well because I ran aground on the way up and was taking it easy on the way home. When we saw this boat, I thought "wow, we were lucky!".

If I recall, it's a red hull...butch is that the same pic you're talking about.
