boat wax

But if it does make the surface shine, is that a bad thing?

Yes no one wants a shiny boat:) How can this be a bad thing?
I use Buff Magic and Rejex I have been very happy with the results!

Thanks Jim. I was told this week that it is important to take off any excess wax with a stripper before applying the compound (Buff Magic). From what I gather from everyone, there is no need to prepped the hull by using another chemical to strip the hull of any impurities.

Buff Magic and Pro Polish - the way to go! The hull was neglected for possible 8 years. The oxidation was as thick as classroom chalk with a dull flat no shine finish. I applied two coats of Buff Magic, then buffed with a slow buffing machine followed and then one coat of Pro Polish and a final buff - and wow what a difference!! I wish I could figure out how to put the pictures in this message to show the difference!

Keep using Buff Magic every year, the finish will keep getting better and better (right, Jonathan?)

I'm in my second year...

John - glad it worked out for you. Worked on the Sea Ray we're selling today, over in Honey Harbour. Sounds like your method the best way to go...likewise, the hull is extremely chalky. Can't wait to give these products a try. I will call you tomorrow for more details.

Scott.

Ya, let me know because you need to get them at Central Outboard on Woodbine and HWY 7. You order it and it arrives the next day. I would get 2 of the Buff Magic (22oz) can as you need to put on 2 applications for best results.

I had pretty decent results with Diamond luster after compounding w/ wizards.

Since you are enjoying the advice on this website, you might want to consider ordering from here as well. Chances are the price is equal if not less than you will find elsewhere.

What I use is 3M high gloss gelcoat compound. I use the 3M buffing pads w/ H. F. variable speed buffer to apply this works great. I then use starbrite marine polish W/PTEF. It has made my neglected hull look wonderful.
