What is / where is Boater's Park in Dania? I saw it on Broward County's Park List and says accessible by boat only. I'm at Thunderboat. What is there at this park?

Thanks,

Esteban

Nice place to BBQ and Picnic. SFBC had a great time there a few years back. Good dock and covered picnic areas. Fixed bridge, so no boats w/Bridge or tower can get to it. Other ROs can give directions.

From Thunderboat just go west on the Dania Cutoff Canal. It's just west of the Rustic Inn...

I used to go there with the Power Squadrons for BBQ and picnic.
You can only access it by boat and it's never crowded.
I guess because there is not much to do there anyway.

This is from the SFBC BBQ at Boater's Park a few years back...

It is possible to get a fly bridge boat to the park but you have to go the long way (as we say in the neighborhood) down New River and come south threw the cross cut canal by the power plant and then back east to the park. The lowest bridge is 30th Avenue Bridge about 16 feet clearance. Angler’s Avenue Bridge is the lowest clearance on the Dania Cut Off at about 10 feet. I had to fold the bimini top down kneel down on the fly bridge of my 315 commander to go under it and I-95 bridges.

Thanks for the info. Clarify something... why is it only accessible by boat? It's not separated by land by any means and in Google Map I see a road behind it. Is it just a matter of no gate and no parking from the road?

No gate...

Randy,
I have gone the long way a couple of times without incident, but I was told that you can break your prop because of debris and tree roots. I did find a lot of debris on one trip, but since so many people advised me not to take the New River to Dania Canal anymore, I stopped.
It was convenient to me to go from Thunderboat to Marina Bay. Actually, it was the short way to go. It's been a few years so I don't know if any cleaning has been done on the canal lately.
Has anyone gone the long way lately?

There are about a half dozen 30 to 45 foot sportfish on my block that are all too tall to go the Dania Cut Off so we all have to go the long way to New River. It really only add about 15 to 30 minutes if the railroad is up. The Trirail bridge is now complete so only have to wait for frieght trains now. I have not had a problem going that way you do need to watch out just south of the 595 bridge. The canal snakes around and there are some nasty rock ledges if you get to far over to the sides. Usally there are pvc pipe markers there. Never had a problem with tree roots. The fishing boats from Two Bills Seafood go that way on an almost daily basis. There are a couple of sail boats at that marina close to 441 and they must draw 4 of 5 feet. It was cleaned up last year after Wilma, a couple of old boats had been dumped along the canal and wre removed.
