And this group has it. The following is the musing of a mind caught in Winter. For your consideration (for those of us who remember The Twilight Zone), what will wear out your brakes more quickly(when you tow a boat? Stopping abruptly just before a red light or applying the breaks gradually a distance away?

Gerry

stopping quickly will wear them faster because stopping slowly allows the normal slowing process to assist and lower the load on brakes.

Kinetic energy....is what makes heat. It depends on the vehicle weight & mass too. IMHO if you apply the brakes too soon.....you will heat up the brake fluid in the brake calipers/cylinders and cause brake fade.

I use my parachute.......... :)

not quite as simple because heat transfer is related to the difference in temp but if you look in the limit a long slow stop generates less heat and has more time to dissipate and more other than breaking stopping action so my vote is again stomping will make them hotter at the end.

The girls int the car or trailered boat, really, silly question :)

The first time I trailered my 18' boat to florida and back, 1425 miles each way, I burned out the front brakes of my explorer. I put surge disc brakes on the trailer and problem solved. When I brake I can feel the trailer brakes working. I have a Jeep liberty now and after 6 round trips the front brakes on the Jeep haven't been replaced yet. There are 89,000 miles on it
