Boating Today on Lake Erie

So, we took this rat of a boat in on trade...had the port engine rebuilt. They just finished it 2 days ago. We needed to get it to our marina, so I was volunteered to bring it back along with a coworker. We started out well enough...nice flat lake, warm temps. 6 HOURS LATER, we pulled in to our marina (65 mile trip...yes, it was a slow boat) with one engine not running and the other one stuck at 1850 RPM...AND...it wouldn't shut down. 10 miles per hour up the river until my coworker figured out what needed to be done to shut off the engine...and yes....we did hit a wall, but not TOO hard. So how was your alls day? LMAO
 
Yikes. If your weather conditions are anything like what we're having in Milwaukee today (snow, sleet, high winds), you are one brave man.
 
That's hilarious Ram! I bet that made your colleague's day when he pulled the ignition wire to shut 'er down...
 
Wishoot, it started out flat and 60, by the time we reached our destination, it was mid 30's and 6 footers...dam* Lake Erie.

marykhubby...it was diesel powered, so pulling the igniton wire didn't do it. There's some kind of "dump" he called it...finally found it just before we hit the wall.

Anyone want a nice used 40 footer...needs minor repair LOL
 
Not here... IF I make the jump, I would trade up for a 4207 model w/ Diesels and HardTop. She seems to have a lot of room for the money with that 15' beam. I was out browsing yesterday and boy are there a lot more boats on the market today... Indicative of the economy I guess.
 
yes...we have a couple of 4207s on our brokerage list...one is a 1995 440 with diesels, hardtop, the works...beautiful boats...I've always loved them. Now if they were only a little faster. The other one is a 1990 4207...diesels also, but I don't know that one. The '95 I've known since new
 
Sounds like a great time RamSport.. I had the day off, so you should have called me I'd have come along w/you.. Where did you pick the boat up at???
 
ram--the way you started that thread--thought you were talking about my boat for a second. thought sima made the decision to take my boat that did have a minor port engine problem and you and he took it back to sima.

What's the worse you seen the Lake? Worst I saw last year was 15-19 forecasted, and never have been in anything >6-8'
 
I have seen waves to about 15 or 16 feet, and been out in them in 10 footers...an old wooden Trojan 42 Flush Deck Motor Yacht. I've also been out there in 8 footers in a Bayliner 34 Trophy Aft Cabin...THAT wasn't fun!!!

Yours came out of the water the day after it was brought in...tucked nicely away in the building :-)

Joe...we picked it up at SHM...pier F, but it was only there temporarily as SYC kicked us out before the engine was fixed. SHM was nice enough to let us keep it there until it was running (but only two thirds of the way back)
 
Hi Ram,

Sounds like it was sort of a fun trip... fun in a way, that at least you made it back.. and you don't have to foot the bill for the repair out of your pocket.. Did SHM do the ill fated repair, or other? Nice they let you dock it there until it could be moved.. nice you actually made it back with out a tow.. :)
 
We had another company do the repairs...in fact, they're here now looking at it again! We have a pretty good relationship with SHM...most of the marinas around here actually.

Yes, I agree - your organization is very well thought of in the boating industry. :) Glad to hear they are looking at that motor again... you'll have to let me know which boat this is?? Maybe we can trade up!! If you provide assistance with the repairs needed.
