Thursday July 2, 2009
Town of Haverstraw presents it's annual Independence Day Celebration at Bowline Point Park. The GOOD AND PLENTIE BAND will perform 6:00PM-7:30PM. The WEST POINT JAZZ KNIGHTS will perform 8:00PM-9:30PM with fireworks to follow. Rain date is July 3,2009 with GOOD AND PLENTIE BAND to perform 7:30PM-9:30PM with fireworks to follow.

I confirmed this today by calling town of Haverstraw...

Excellent, I love it when a plan comes together...

Well that truly sucks for those of us who have to work on Friday!

Well Judy, the solution to that is take off.... See how easy that was.
It does make it easier to go watch the city ones now...

I wish it really was that easy...my job owns me unfortunately.

Why not come out Thursday night for the fireworks, go back to the marina, sleep on the boat and go to work on Friday?

You know Mike, that could be an option. It's the summer program & much more relaxed & informal. Could be an option!

Not to worry...it'll probably rain that Thursday night and the fireworks will be postponed. And, if it doesn't rain, it'll probably be fifty degrees the way the temps have been lately.

Be the first one at your job to call in with the swine flu!

Yeah, with all the rain we have been having, rain on the 2nd of July is probably a real possibility. And of course all this rain does seem to bring on the sniffles. Would you believe I have not called in sick in over 20 years. I think that alone might be considered "sick".

Right now I'm just hoping John gets my new canvas up by tomorrow. Boat is wide open tonight with three days of rain forecast. Don't like when boat is wide open..even in nice weather.

JohnH, when new canvas is complete I will bring boat around to Haverstraw. Completely changed the design. Canvas will now attach to the radar arch and no more poles in the back!! I also got the tweed canvas like you have.

Judy,
That may have been your canvas they were working on yesterday when I went over to Patino to get an estimate for my front panel. Didn't look at it real close, but it was a big blue piece and it looked like they might have been putting the finishing touches on it. Hope it's yours.
I brought my front panel to Patino yesterday. New and heavier eisenglass, a little stretch of the center panel, new snaps, and ready this afternoon...at what I think is a super reasonable price...well under what I thought it might cost. If it looks and fits good I will go back to him for additional work.

That was my canvas John. In addition to getting rid of the back poles & attaching to the radar tower we are having the three front panels cut so they can be removed individually rather than the bulky three panel attached. We also extended the bimini so it will now be a real camper canvas as opposed to the bubble type & we went with Stratoglass all around. Have not seen his canvas work yet but I'm very happy with the structure he has so far completed. It is exactly what I wanted.

Judy, Patino did the canvas of 28' Bayliner two slips from me and it looks terrific. The front panels are awesome and the camper canvas with heavier screens fit perfectly. I know some people have had their issues with Patino, but I'm willing to give him a shot until proven otherwise. Harry Parker from Custom Canvas was on green dock yesterday looking at a 30' Maxum. Competition can only be good from our perspectives. Good luck with you new set up. I'll be up later this week to get my front panel. Maybe I'll stop by PennyBridge and check out his work on your boat.

Which side of Green dock? By you or up where I used to be?

Yes, there are some that have issues with John...don't know details of any but it could be personality. Harry on the other hand is like everybodys father...nicest guy you can meet. Lot's of people rave about him...I'll agree with very nice guy...quality of work? Can only speak of my own experience. Never freaking again!

I believe John is going to get the job right. He is the only canvas maker we spoke to who did not balk at anything we wanted to do...he was not the cheapest, although in the ballpark, but we felt the most comfortable with his years of experience.

BTW...if you are ever looking for a change & can pull yourself away from the deep water..Penny Bridge ROCKS. Was very apprehensive going into the season...all I know is Haverstraw...I'm very happy we made the move. Some people I really have known for years & the ones I just met I feel like I have known for years. The B dock crew is all that I have ever read about & more...it's almost a family. A huge change from north green dock where (the last few years) you might see one or two people walk by every half hour or so. AND...even the farthest parking spot away I can still practically hit my boat with a rock. Please stop by...you will see my boat when you pull in (I still can't get used to that!)

Judy, the boat he did is two slips down from my boat. Gotta say that I will never move from Haverstraw. People can say what they want about the docks, the noise, the crowds, the long walks..., but there are a great bunch of people in Haverstraw and particularly on green in the area where I am. We have developed some close friendships during our five years on green and I would be reluctant to leave that environment. Besides...I have 11' of water under my boat at low tide and no rockin' & rollin'.

You only have 11' at low?? Wow, that sucks...I used to have 18!!

South Green & North Green two different animals. There is life on your end..by me, one by one our closest friends left for various reasons. Got damn lonely after a while..we were mainly surrounded by transients. That's not to say we have not made lifelong friendships after 10 years at Haverstraw, we have, and I don't regret a minute of being there nor would I ever say I would not go back...just peoples needs change. For me..the walk did become an issue. Not lazy..actually an avid hiker who thinks nothing of a three or four mile hike...just don't want to do it getting to my boat. Whatever works for you is what you need to do...right now Penny Bridge works for me. It reminds me of Red dock 8 years ago when I had my 23ft bow rider. Now THAT was a good time!!

Know what? PB does not rock & roll nearly as much as you might think...at least not on B dock. I have yet to spill a drop of Butch's beer.

And you forgot to say...Butch is in PB. The best reason of all...
I will check out your canvas tonight Judy....
