Brass- Bronze?

I have a thru hull pick up to a Perko strainer. I used to have a nipple to a brass "T" with 3/4" outlet then go to the motor. The brass "T" was good for hooking up for winterization. My mechanic replumbed my intake and removed my brass "T". Something about it being brass?
Do I need bronze fittings or brass ok?
Not sure if my fitting was an issue or he just didnt want to take the time to put it back?

If used in SW, you might thank your mechanic for eliminating the potential there for "de-zincifiction".

Brass fittings sometimes go in as little as a coupl of years... AC guys usually use them in manifolds as bronze nipples are almost impossible to find I have removed some that where paper thin... Another time i had one fell apart when I opened the strainer. Good thing the sea cock wasn't frozen

I use nylon or marelon whenever possible
