Here is another example of brass fitting near failure in air con system... While replacing an air con pump on here boat yesterday I removed the original fittings (11 years old) between the march pump and the flexible hose and replaced them with nylon as th original showed sign of corrosion plus the tell tale pink color.
As a test I wacked the brass female / female connector with a screwdriver... It took four taps to break the corroded material.
Again, tapping with a screwdriver while holding the fitting... This was not a hammer hit against a hard surface,
Nothing new of course, but just a remainder to inspect a replace any brass fitting found in raw water system. Don't assume the builder or serviceman used bronze,
This has been on my to do list for while. One down, 3 more pumps to go.
