Has anyone ever heard of a boat that goes down the local canals and breaks up the ice? Friend of mine (who's new to the water) asked me since he saw a boat come down his canal when it was slightly icy. The boat wasn't anyone he's ever seen on his canal and the name on the boat was "Buster" so he thought maybe it was a boat hired to break up ice. I've never heard of anyone like this and think the name was a coincidence but I'm wondering if anyone else has ever heard of it.

I think that same guy works at my company, but he doesn't break ice!
I wouldn't want it either. Just curious if there was such a thing. I guess some people would want the ice broken up if they had floating docks. I know my neighbor chops up the ice around his so that it doesn't get pulled under and pull the poles away from the bulkhead. I have my floating dock hauled when the boat is hauled so I'm not concerned about ice.
