what a bittersweet day. I almost can imagine how brooklynites felt when the dodgers left.

Dont get me started on this .... Fing politics ! Kate Murray should be strung up and beaten !

Rob

What happened to Wang's lighthouse project?
Wasn't that the savior for the team.

Kate murray wouldn't approve the zoning, town of hempstead basically ran him out of town. I'm ashamed to be a toh resident at this point.

Yup. We have Kate to thank.

Now the building can crumble and the patronage jobs go somewhere else.

Well, I disagree. I'll miss going to cheap hockey games (because no way am I spending $80 for 4 train fares to see the Isles, if I do that I'll see a real hockey team at MSG) but a) Kate did what she was supposed to do - she got reelected in the midst of this, so a majority of her constituents must not have wanted it and b) the Lighthouse was an ill conceived project from the start. There are many things wrong with what they were trying to do there. Frankly, it never would have happened because Wang never would have got financing for it.

Ron I disagree. THE TOH is always late to react to anything . They never plan ahead. NEver are on the forefront of anything. The loss of the race track was a travesty. Nassau got screwed over by the scam of the owners of the property and the TOH did nothing to try and correct the mistakes made. Fast fwd to today . Still no plan on the table. Agreed the light house had issues but Wang was willing to make concessions . So now what do we have ??? WE ARE Fu#rb2@gr5t!!! the taxpayers are bent over once again .

Rob

I agree with Rob. The TOH screwed this up. Government getting in the way of business again.

Rob, you may be right that they don't operate well but regardless, I believe they made a good decision here. This was a bad plan. An arena that size needs a parking lot that size. This is LI. I don't want to park in some dank garage where I'll probably encounter some thug from the mixed income housing they were going to build. Only an idiot would have bought a $900,000 condo in such a place and there are no longer a lot of moneyed idiots. The roads are impassable now. The sewage spills in the Bay now. They had to realistic plan to fix either because no such plan was possible. It was never going to work and it was wrong for LI. This is not Queens or Brooklyn. Let Brooklyn have it.

We'll see what happens but I would vote for her if I lived there.

As far as government interfering with business, that's a reach. This was a huge tract of public land. If handing it over to private interests was not in the public interest then it shouldn't have been done. This is proper oversight. Something Nassau County, in their endless hunger for more instant tax dollars to make up for past mistakes, without any thought beyond the next election, never does. Remember, the real reason the Islanders had a financial problem was Gulotta's dumb front loaded deal for management of the Coliseum. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Ron,
I didnt want the lighthouse project but it was the only option. TOH had nothing in place to replace the building. they still dont. The buildings a dump in its current state. No Venue is going to come to a dump. You have to spend money to make money. Thats Business. you have to keep up with the jones's . TOH cant even keep up with the flintstones. So now with no team , no income how do you get people to invest. You cant ur screwed ! WE are screwed.

Again look at the sewers . again no plan in place sell it off.... What a bunch of fuctarts !

Rob

I'm really surprised, because except for this forum Kate Murray has been left unscathed. Wang originally wanted to rebuild the coliseum, his money. Murray said no unless there was more to the plan. Wang creates the Lighthouse project and invited anyone to be included. He presents the plan which as others have said could have been scaled down, and Murray threw one monkey wrench after another, and then just sat on it, forcing Wang to give it a deadline. The deadline passed, Wang was out, and I don't blame him. I also don't blame the residents of Nassau for voting it down, they are taxed enough. I think the blame rests squarely and fairly on Kate Murray's head.

This isn't just about the Islanders, businesses in the area, or jobs, although that part sucks too. It is also about where do we now have shows, conventions, indoor sporting events and other things the coliseum supported.

It was extremely short sighted to have allowed Wang and his money to leave the area. It ultimately sucks for everybody.

Just saying,

Billy 10K.

Billy, I had another post typed the other day about that aspect that went away when I hit the wrong key before submitting. All I can tell you from years in the software business and knowing people in exec positions at his company is: believing this guy was some kind of Santa Claus is extremely naive. He got rich; other people went to jail; lawsuits by large stakeholders flew constantly. Yet somehow people think the officials they denounce as clueless were going to make a good deal with him and end up happy, when a lot of very smart businessmen ended up miserable. Was not going to happen.

The company I worked for at the time had a ban on buying anything from his for years because of some stunt involving interpretation of contract language that he tried to pull. It was along the lines of, the company's business model changed slightly, so they tried to say all of the software licenses were null and void and we'd have to pay them all over again to continue using what we bought.

The county was thinking of him as a partner. He's no one's partner.

Well now the town is holding their Wang as the coliseum becomes a flea market.
Crime, undesirables, place will be another ****hole before you know it.
Anyone remember Roosevelt raceway?
Eventually it will become something but the town will end up giving it away with tax breaks to get it developed.

They will probably use it as an evacuation shelter on Monday. There is a good use. Lol

Hi Ron,

I'm not trying to make him out as a hero, but unfortunately when you get to that level of rich they and the polititians swim in the same mud. The way I see it we will not get a building built for the purposes I described again probably ever. That is why a deal with Wang should have been made. We only have to look at Jones Beach and Trump to see how the deal has to go. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but unfortunately it's the way it is.

Wang had a company that offered the right product at the right time and he stepped in it. Then he/ they got greedy and others took the fall. Since then, his ego is enormous. He surrounds himself with "yes men" and always thinks he knows more than others cause of his business success. He held on to that team thinking he could make back his losses through the real estate. Never happened.

Now he goes to Brooklyn, signs a 25 year iron clad lease, doesn't own the building, shares it with two others (building owner and bball owner) so there is no way he makes back the revenue he lost, especially with less seats available than the Coliseum. I hear the building has already gone through two general managers and about to hire their third. Not even open three months yet! I say Wang will sell the team sown the road, once he gets them competitive again. Only way he recovers his losses in this situation.
