Interesting article on Brunswicks answer to Volvo's IPS system in the current Power and Motor Yacht magazine.
Both companies have introduced joysick controllers for their systems. the cooment is made that technology that starts out in huge freighters and cruis ships often trickles down to motor yachts and finally to cruising boats. I think that "pod mounted" propulsion and joystick controls are an excellent example of technology that was once commercial and military and is now available to the masses.
Brunswicks controller is really interesting in that it is tied into the GPS and can be made to lock onto a position and hold that possition regardless of wind and currents. Joystick controls have been around for a while, but this is the first I have heard of this position holding technology for pleasure boats.
It would seem to me that due to its huge R&D budgets, Brunswick is able to make technological advances to boating that are similar to what automotive companies have been doing for years.
