Here is a nice link if you want to know what the worst California Delta/S.F. Bay invasive plants look like. This site will also let you print an illustrated booklet that comes in handy on the boat.

Hmm, so it looks like the stuff I sometimes get tangled in props or jet drives is the Brazilian Waterweed. Interesting that you can't just cut it, it'll grow back. The Antioch Golf Course's adjacent reservoir has problems with some kind of grassy stuff growing in it, and they just have some odd-looking floating mower thing that cuts it and collects it up. They're out there frequently trying to cut it back. I wonder if that stuff works the same: if it grows back right away even from little clippings and stuff.

Huh, I always wondered what this stuff was. When I was a kid, I think how it happened is my parents were up in the foothills or something, and saw this stuff, and brought home just one little cutting and planted it in the yard. It really took off and spread into kind of a nice ground cover where there was just dirt or bark or something before. It really grows well in this climate and soil! I always thought it was really pretty, I had no idea it was invasive.
