I'm asking the question here because Cablevision is mostly here. I'm fed up with my cable bill going up every other month. So I'm thinking it's time to take Verizon up on their 89.95 offer but not sure if it's a bait and switch? So do you prefer Verizon or Cablevision?

I've had fios for years and love it. I think picture quality is better with them too

Verizon has no hotspots . After the initial rebates I think the prices are close

I have had Verizon Fios for a few years now and we are satisfied. We pay around 95 a month and that's been for a couple years. My contract is expired. My wife deals with them and I know she is always extending something or getting credits for something else. I dont have any premium channels, 2 TV's with HD boxes and dvr. Phone and internet as well.
Prior to that we had directv which I loved but they wouldn't budge on the price until the day Verizon was doing the install. I had cablevision once but will not go back for the same reason you want to leave them.

I recently switch to Fios in the past 8 months from Comcast cable. Only wish I had done it sooner.
'nuff said...

I use the hotspots all the time specially when I'm on my boat!

Satellite in house.
Cablevision for internet (hotspots are tough to beat, noone else comes close)
Magic Jack for phone.

I looked to switch several times. At the end of the day they cold not keep my existing home number as they promised and when you add up the non promotional price, there was little to no difference.

We have DirecTV on the boat and we had it on the house many years prior. Love it. Over all the years we have had less outages with DirecTV due to storms (cloud cover) than we have experienced with Comcast (cable TV) here in North Fort Myers in the last two months.
I will say that their internet service is pretty good. Verizon 4G is adequate but frequently burps. We use the Vz hotspot when we are on the move and I have to say when people start waking up, the service bogs down. Generally speaking between 9AM and 11AM in Ft. Lauderdale our experience has led us to believe it sucks.
So we use Comcast full time at the condo, and a VZ aircard when it blips (frequent). We cannot use DirecTV at the condo because of the rules. But that is going to change.

Changed to Verizon last year, never looked back. Much better. I have much better wifi, actually upgraded and got a discount. Paying $30 a month less than CV.

For the home, FIOS is far superior to Cablevision. For business, FIOS internet blows away Cablevision, latency and jitter and quality of service is far better than Cablevision. FIOS service totally sucks. Cablevision service for business is then best I have ever seen in 30 years of being in this industry, their response time is hours for a problem, FIOS is days.

From a technical aspect:
FIOS delivery method (fiber vs analog/coax) makes for better internet, faster speeds and as mentioned little to know jitter or latency. Also, with FIOS, you are not sharing bandwidth with your neighborhood, you get what you sign up for, unlike Cablevision. For the residential TV user, when changing channels there is no delay when the next channel populates with FIOS.

As mentioned, Cablevision has awesome hotspots, Verizon has none
Cablevision has no taxes and therefore is less than the best deal you can get from FIOS
Cablevision service is far better than FIOS, but with that said, FIOS very rarely needs to be serviced.

I have both at my house, FIOS for the business and Cablevision as a backup, a few years ago I was pro Cablevision, not anymore, as a heavy IP user for phones and other things, FIOS internet is much mor stable than Cablevision.

I went with FIOS the first day it was available in my area. We met a couple on a cruise from Long Island who worked for Verizon, started talking about FIOS because I knew the Village board had it on their agenda, the woman took our numbers and promised to give a call as soon as she knew they would offer it in our neighborhood. She called, and we made the appointment.
That was probably about 6 or 7 years ago, and I have no regrets.
The prices are probably about the same as Cablevision. I have just about every channel, with 4 HD Boxes, Multi room DVR, Internet, and phone.
The picture quality seemed better immediately. I had been having problems off and on with my Cable service for years, and could never get them to straighten it out the right way. They kept sending these "sub-contractors" around on the service calls and all they wanted to do was get in and out as fast as possible. Their work was very sloppy, appearance very unprofessional, and some of them were pretty shady looking characters.
I've had a couple of service calls with the FIOS guys over the years. They were very professional, prompt, and the company took my cell number and told me the tech would text me when he was on the way so I wouldn't have to stay home as long as I was local.
They always do a really neat job, and never leave any scraps or debris around.
The VOIP phone with Cablevision was terrible. Sounded like an echo all the time. It was actually unusable. The FIOS VOIP phone is as clear as a landline. We rarely use it anymore since we all have cells, and mostly keep it for the alarm system (which it works flawlessly with), but it's a good system.
The internet with FIOS is lightning quick. The internet with Cabevision was quick too, but only after months of problems and finally having to pay them to drop a second line from the pole for the internet. Their tech people claimed that I had too much other stuff on the original line to get a good strong internet connection.
My feeling is that Cablevision wanted to do nothing with their infrastructure except bleed it for every last penny for years. They didn't care about customers because they knew they had very little competition with a couple of satellite companies that never posed any real threat.
They had their crappy attitude until Verizon came along and gave them a run for their money. Then all of a sudden they started to upgrade their system to try to catch up. They are still trying to do it the cheapest way possible by retrofitting an ancient network.
The family that controls Cablevision is only concerned about fleecing the public in everything they run. They don't need any more of my money.

We have Cablevision only because Fios is not available. If it were, we'd switch. Our daughter and son-inlaw had basic Cablevision in their house in New Rochelle, NY, when they bought it a few years ago. They're both attorneys so they needed the system updated for internet and phone. Cablevision spent weeks trying to get their system to work properly, but couldn't. Finally, in disgust, our daughter and son-in-law called in Verizon. They had Fios working perfectly in all the rooms, on all the computers, and on all the phones within two days. They pay less than we do for just our TV and internet and get better reception and many more channels. Hy

You guys are great! I really appreciate the responses. We don't use the hot spots and I have to say that I started thinking about making the switch a while ago because my brother-in-law did and he says it's great. The quality of my tv reception sucks and they've been here many times and I still get the freeze frame at night between 7 and 10pm. I have four boxes with the DVR service to all and phone with internet. I will say I like their service but if it wasn't having problems all the time maybe I wouldn't need service.
Thanks again, Rob

There is no FIOS service in Town of Brookhaven where I live and no prospect of them getting in, so I have to go with Cablevision. That said I have found the Cablevision TV and internet service to be highly reliable. Any of the few times I have called they have been knowledgeable, professional, and I got a live person right away. When needed techs have been dispatched and arrived on time. I accidentally cut the cable with a power edger and they fixed it the next morning. I too use the internet hot spots all the time. They are everywhere. In fact, I just got a pop up on the phone telling me I'm an Optimum Hotspot power user. This is a huge value to me.

I contrast this to my experience with Verizon for land line service. They have been completely inept, unresponsive, and it's like pulling teeth to get a person that knows what they are doing. My caller ID service went out and instead of fixing it they disconnected my phone for 2 weeks. When I did a renovation to my home it was like getting an act of Congress to relocate the phone line. I have zero confidence their FIOS customer service is any better; I don't think I would switch even if it were in my area. That said, my buddy in Merrick likes FIOS.

I still HATE how much cable TV prices have increased.

Cablevision, they do have issues, but all and all for 18 years I have only a few complaints. Know, my devil as they say. Also, I don't want to see the new 12 helicopter flying away from my house, LOL.

Ha ha! True, though. The first thing we watch in the morning and the last thing at night is 61, the traffic and weather channel.
