Hey Jim,

How is the new boat coming along? Are you back on the Sassafras?

Hello All!

We got the 50' Chris Craft back to GYB on Saturday 7/21 after about 1200 miles from Ft Lauderdale FL. All along the ICW, I said "I can't wait to get out of the "skinny" water ICW and into the Chesapeake". Arrived in Norfolk about the same time as the strong northerly did and for two days took water over the flybridge from bow spray - directly into 4 foot seas and whitecaps running at 10 knots... with 20-20 hindsight, I should've stayed in Hampton awhile...

Now comes the fun part - getting it cleaned up and put into the shape I want her to be in, and selling the Uniflite 36 aft cabin.

More later. I'm working on reducing our daily handwritten notes into a publishable "log" of the trip.

Delaware Jim

Jim,

Glad to see you are back from the trip! Hopefully everything worked out and can't wait to read your logs. I will venture over to GYB sometime to check out your new Chris.

Been there and done that Jim. We went as far as the Rappahanock, and said enough, then layed for 2 days!
Good to hear your back, and safe. Look forward to reading the trip.

Welcome to the CC owners.

Just as a matter of interest what year and model is you new CC?

Hi Gang:
Our "new" boat is a 1985 50' Chris Constellation (sometimes called the 500). Reportedly, it was the last hull laid by Uniflite in late 1984 when CC bought Uniflite. Still working on fixing many of the "known" issues when we bought it (fresh water system leaks, getting TV setup, etc.) We are hoping to get it into "liveaboard" condition by October. Either then or next spring (depending on job requirements), we are planning on moving aboard for at least 1 year...

Vic, the only "breakdown" we had was one of my own doing: I found the bottom just north of Haulover Canal in Florida and tore up the props pretty badly. Spent 7 days in Daytona Beach awaiting the props to be repaired. Frustrating, but that goes with traveling the ICW. BTW, whatever you read about "skinny water" in the ICW, it is MUCH worse than that. Some spots IN THE CHANNEL are under 4 feet at low tide...

More coming.

Glad you made it safely but I was just chuckling to myself how possibly "Bob" might have been able to give you some insight on what to do in a situation like that. lol
