Guys I think Ubiquiti makes a similar model or group (called Air View) which includes an outdoor version(s). The cameras send pictures to the Cloud. To access them follow the instructions upon setup.
I'm all for putting them on a router and hard wiring them at the boat. Too many cameras transmitting data through CableVisions access points may cause them to shut down this type of operation, only time will tell.
I'm not understanding why your marinas aren't providing WiFi (true high power high bandwidth) to the slip holders?
The cable hotspots can only support so much traffic and I doubt most are even close to a marina provided Hotspot?

I hooked up my first one and it is working pretty good.
Though I could not get it to work wirelessly, so I had to wire it to router direct.
I had it working wirelessly in my house fine, so I think it's a issue with my router on boat.

Billy while these are cloud cameras they are not streaming video to a cloud NVR they are recording to an internal micro SD card. What makes these cameras cool is that Dlink host a portal to connect to them it does not use any real bandwidth until you connect to them and it's not like you are going to stay connected all day. The second advantage is you have a live connection and if you have a PTZ like I do you can change the view and see a different area of the boat. They absolutely make outdoor cameras but they are expensive more like $300 vs $60-$90. I may just roll the dice and use the indoor camera in my cockpit if it goes bad I can replace several times and still be a head of the game.
In about a month Flir will be releasing a new line of DVRs which will have a similar feature so I will be replacing my DVR and I will no longer need the Dlink camera although it is pretty cool and easy to use not to mention cheap!

If you want more cameras, there are a couple 'plug-ins' on the TV input like A/V 1, AV 2, component 1, component 2, all using RCA plugs. Then there are HDMI and S video using different plugs.
If you get in to it, there are routers with 500 GB and 1 or 2 terabyte hard drives.
I've had security cameras for over 20 years, all using the cheapie cameras. All work perfectly well in the day time. Night vision is limited by the number and quality of infra-red lights and the number of 'TV lines', though most of my cameras are 500 lines and 700 lines were disappointing.
I have two 8 camera router/recorders around the house. One just for the chickens. Got a few new chicks that are fun just to watch their antics.
I have 5 on my tow van which doesn't have any windows behind the cab so there's 3 monitors in the cab.

There have been a few home invasions here lately (very unusual in this community) and they've been in broad daylight. The cameras the guys are using for their boats sounds more like what I'd be interested in. Not sure what the ones you're talking about will do....I think you're talking about viewing the camera while I'm home but I'd like access from away from home.

Look at the model Dlink DCS-5010L or DCS-5020L, this allows you to pan and tilt camera. Works day or night and you can view from any phone or computer. It will notify you when there is motion, so you will know when mail comes or someone is at front door. It does require internet access either wireless or wired. It is not waterproof, so if this is a wet location, you may have a issue. the 5020 has a repeater, so it will extend your wireless access beyond your front door. You may not need that, so then the 5010 is good. If you want it fixed, then look at the 932L. I have the 932L, which I bought to try and see how it works for boat. It works really good but did drop after 1 week of constant access. I think this is the optimum issue and I need to research. I plan to buy a 5020 though.

Dave, it wouldn't be in a location that gets wet so that's not a concern. I do have wifi also so that's not an issue either. My front door is actually on the side of the house so I'm thinking I'd get one for the front and one I could put in the window in the front of the house.

So if fixed is fine, then 932L is cheapest.

I'd probably be able to use fixed at the side door but would like the pan & tilt in the front window. Is is basically a plug n play set up and then some adjustments/settings?? I don't want to invest in something (no matter how inexpensive) if I won't be able to set it up.

It it totally plug and play.
Only issue I had is at the boat where the connection dropped.
When i did it in the house it worked fine and never dropped.

All the cameras I have have been 'indoor/outdoor'. Out of some 50 different cameras/models a couple have gotten water inside.
There are 4 camera routers. It's the routers/recorders that make them internet available. My pan/tilt connects directly to my ATT wireless router. There are different ways to contact/view via email, cell or smart phone or laptop/PC.
None of my cameras, individually, cost more than $50 though a 4 camera system may cost $250. The last 2 cameras I tried cost under $20 but they didn't come with cables or power supply. I had enuff cables already up. I wanted to test the quality of the night pix of these cameras with 700 TV lines. Next i'll try out the 1000 tv lines.

Some people are talking about camera systems and that confuses this thread.
The camera that started this thread, that Rob was nice enough to tell us about is a cloud camera.
It has now wires except a AC plug that plugs into any AC outlet.
It needs no wire but can be hard wired if desired.
It is configured by plugging into your router directly.
You run some software.
Unplug it and now put it anywhere within wirless range of your router.
You can now view what the camera sees from any phone that haves the mydlink app or from any computer by signing into mydlink.com.
It does not record but it will send an alert your email when motion is detected along with a pic of what causes the motion.
