I received this email:

THIS HAS BEEN CANCELLED

"Greetings,

There is a very important meeting on January 20 at 11am at Walnut Grove
on Delta Abandoned Vessels. See the meeting agenda at this link:
http://www.delta.ca.gov/pdf/Abandoned_Vessels_Agenda_January2010.pdf

It is very important that we attendees at the Jan 20 meeting in Walnut
Grove to represent recreational boaters and marinas. Please spread the
word to fellow boaters and marina operators and harbor masters so we can
encourage strong representation and attendance at the session.

(The meeting comes at an odd time for RBOC Directors as we'll be at a
RBOC Board of Directors meeting in southern California on January 20.
So, RBOC Directors are available to attend.)

Thank you

Dave Breninger,
RBOC President"

I'm going to post this on my Facebood page to help spread the word!

Interesting stuff. Too many abandoned boats are showing up on Delta waterways especially during this recession. It can take a couple of grand to dispose of a hulk properly unless done through a sheriff's office.

This is news to me. Maybe I can augment my income!

If a home doesnt sell you can rent it out. What can people do if they cant continue to pay for a boat and it wont sell? Welp, they abandon them..it sucks because I want to do more exploring of the delta waterways this season but my concern are the shallow spots and submerged debris.

Speaking of debris, my wife, sister in law and brother in law are planning a trip to Suisun last weekend in January.

Anything I should look out for in terms of debris, submerged tree trunks etc?

Wayne, they to look out for skinny water! Have updated paper charts and use them. GPS often has outdated information. they are fine for general navigation, but you need the paper charts to miss obstacles and know water depths. When in doubt, stay in the marked channels.

The last time I went to Suisun [a great destination!], they had finally placed markers to keep folks from running aground. I presume those are still in place. Also avoid traveling during a minus tide when the water can get even skinnier.

Bring a good camera. Lots of wonderful wild life will be sighted!

Wayne,

Don't be too worried about obstacles in the Delta. If you have AND USE a chart, you shouldn't have any problems. Did you ever get your engines up and running correctly? Who did you finally find to do the corrective work?

WRT Suisun, I don't know if it has been corrected or not but years ago there was a berm just as you entered the downtown area that was a result of the dredging done in the downtown area, but not in the river at the same time if I remember correctly. It was fine on anything but a low tide and then you had to watch out.

I like that boat shredder that is displayed on that delta boat patrol web site. Itis pretty cool.
