cant get more than 2000 rpm from crusader

Sorry if this was covered before, but do your engines employ carbs with inlet filters like the Rochesters and if so are they nicely clear?

And has anyone confirmed carb float level is to spec.?

I don't recall your confirming the distributors still have points and condensers , not aftermarket modules, and if the former, whether the dwell angle was found to be in spec at 28-31* ( opt. 29.5*). ( Any points gap spec is just to help get it started, not correctly tuned, IMO).

Also , since it sounds like you have not yet temporarily plumbed in to the fuel pump a very clean portable tank of very fresh new gas, you said you filled with nice fresh gas but how much 3 yr old gas was in there when you added the fresh? New gas won't fix phase-separated gasohol if that happened to be the case.

Today we pulled the timing chain cover and found two gears and no chain, it is definitely reverse rotation. Does anyone know what and where the marks are on the two gears so you can line them up. When the two gears are lined up shouldn't #1 be at TDC? Shouldn't the rotor in the distributor point to #1 spark plug?

SH*T!!! I just wrote out a complete timing procedure and accidentely hit the back button on my mouse.

Cam gear mark is at 6 O'clock and crank gear is at 12 O'clock. #1 piston is at top of stroke and intake and exhaust valves are closed (slight side to side wiggle of rocker).

Rotor will have standard (clockwise) rotation and point to #1 plug wire at 5:30 O'clock.

Timing mark on dampner is at 1 O'clock. Set timing tab or line of center punch to align with timing mark of dampner.
