Greetings from lovely New Jersey....

Question: Can somebody vouch for a decent canvas guy in the Kingston area (other than Country Canvas in Rifton...he's too busy). I need to get 2 side windows replaced with Stratoglass. The old 30 mil eisenglass wore out and I want the "good stuff".

Thanks guys!

If you're in NJ why not use Harry Parker? His shop is in Midland Park and he routinely comes up to the Haverstraw area. I know he travels quite far. Harry is NEVER going to give you the lowest price, EVER. BUT and this is a BIG BUT, the job will be done when he says it will upfront and it will be right or he will jump thru hoops to make it happen.

I've used a number of canvas guys over the years and he is the only one I'll use any more... (OK except for me as I'm getting pretty good and minor canvas work!)

If you need his phone number let me know.

Otto, are those pieces ones that you can get off to bring to this Parker fellow? Does the canvas guy need to come to the boat???

PS - its been awhile since you posted on here, you loser [:-mischievous] ...

I have been hesitant to pick any of them for various reasons. One guy came off like he was the best thing that happened to boating... "I AM EXPENSIVE" ok, so I looked at his work and it did not justify the expense. Maybe for small stuff, but I even asked about fender covers and that would also be way to expensive.
Another guy referred to me as the guy who wants a ferrari top, and kept playing hard to get. He remains that way, and I ain't calling him.
The only success I've had in getting decent estimates has involved working with people in Jersey or American Marine down in Mamaroneck.
I get the feeling the job for our boat was too big for the folks up here. Perhaps you will have better luck with a smaller job.
Having spoken with Gioia Sail (Pt. Pleasant NJ), you might ask him if he can knock out a couple for you since they do alot of OEM stuff for SeaRay etc..

Rommer, can you publish Harry's number? I am relatively close to Midland Park and would always use a good referral over someone who could care less about the work. Besides, the pieces can come off and I can drop them off anywhere I choose, so that shouldnt be a problem.

Pete, yes, I have been super busy and wish I had the time to spend on this board. But, in a pinch, I know I can get good info when I need it.... BTW, I may be seeing you at the boat show if you plan to be there. :)

I don't want to break any rules here but if you Google "Custom Designers LLC Midland Park NJ" you'll have all the info you need.

Really nice father and son team and I believe a nephew now as well...

Duhhh... make sure you use that voucher I sent you.

Harry Jr. had a small mishap and is at home recovering. If you like working with Jr. as I do, he'll be back in about a few weeks as he said.
Harry Sr. is still in full swing though.

rommer, go ahead and post his number, I'll take the heat for it, if there is any...

BTW - sorry to hear about Jr. What happened? Fall off a bar stool? ;)

btw, i stopped by to give Harry the canvas windows on friday and he mentioned his son was in an accident. he might be out for a few months. that would be worst case harry mentioned. fwiw, harry seems like a really awesome guy. in fact, a good friend of mine at work has used him in the past and said the same stuff that everybody else had mentioned... with all that chaos, he still committed to me a finish date of less than 2 weeks and at a cost i didnt flinch at...! thats customer service. will let you know how it turns out. thanks again rommer!

Your very welcome. I'm sure your be happy with his work. Must be a PITA being down a man as they enter the start of their busy season...
