Canyon Marlin run?

I'm hearing that there are marlin out there - a buddy hooked onto a white 2 weeks ago at the Hudson. We're now targeting the inshore tuna run. BFT were SE of the Glory Hole and I'm now hearing that there were YFT even closer to shore. Now that Bill has come and gone I'm waiting to hear the reports from Tuesday before we make a run out on Wednesday.

Sandy, I also heard Marlin & Tuna? I'm going to take off Friday & make the Canyon Run. I'm also looking at buying much heavier gear but I'm going even if I use the Davit to haul'em in :) Good luck! The fishing starts about here

If you find a good spot I'll be right behind you.

Art - sounds like you're planning on starting near Tom's?? Tomorrow (Wednesday) I'm going to try for the inshore run that I hear is around 20+ miles from Shark River Inlet in the direction of the Atlantic Princess wreck. Will report back here Thursday am as I have to get back in time for a Wednesday evening Broadway show...

I'll bet if you get the bite on you're not coming in :) Broadway can wait!
I have a contour map of the bottom & there is a deep notch instant drop from 350 to about 600 ft right about the spot I gave you. Then it gets deeper to about 2900 feet as you continue the next 10 miles or so. I've got an extra long fuel line hooked up to the gas dock. Funny on 1 chart I show only 100 miles out & on another it shows 140 miles out? That's a big difference? I have not checked my Northstar Navionics charts yet. I guess I'll just read off the mile markers by the side of the road :)

Well, I guess we should just stayed at the dock yesterday. Left the inlet in flat seas only to find 5-8 footers with a bad chop after we got about 15 miles out. Plan was to head out about 44 miles so we cut the ride short and made our way to the Mudhole near Monster Ledge instead. Got the trolling lines out and trolled around for a few hours. One of my buddies started retching on the way out and continued for the next few hours- so since there was an absence of marks or any life whatsoever, we headed back to the inlet early. From the sound of the reports on the VHF - nobody was doing much catching. Tough day, but I guess that's why they call it fishing...

Hopefully it will settle down by the weekend - but with Danny making his way up the coast and the nasty weekend forecast, you may want to reconsider that canyon trip.

I'm going to check for weather later on and decide what to do? Wow, I've got that urge to go real strong. I need to fill up anyway so the first stop is the Highlands. Maybe I'll just stick my Bow out & see where it goes :)

It wouldn't be the first time. I always give her a good bath. A nice huge Tuna or Marlin would look great in a photo hanging off the Davit. I need a good shot to hang on my wall.
You should see the 10-ft Sailfish I have stuffed & mounted.

We saw Billy Elliot - which won best musical this year. I've got to say it was one of the best Broadway shows I've seen in a few years. I like big musicals and while this one didn't have a huge extravagant set, it had a good story and great singing/dancing. It was a long show - almost 3 hours with an intermission. I highly recommend it....

Last Musical I saw was Jersey Boys. My wife loved it. They also serve drinks :)

Sandy, was in that same area on Tuesday with ideal conditions and saw it first hand that there were YFT and BFT at the exact spot that you were thinking of; there were also guys being dragged around on sea kayaks hooked up to decent yellowfins. It was a great day; I had friends try the same trip on weds with my intel and they turned around as well. I have heard reports of YFT 15-20 off your inlet; but I have not scouted them out.

I'm not going even if I was piloting a Nordhavn. I hear 13+ footers or better for Friday morning & building 70+ Knot winds & that's the good news. If I get caught in that no problem but I'm not going into that by choice for a 100+ mile run. That's no fun. I've got all the safety gear a guy could want but I just don't want to use it :)

Northern - are you referring to YFT & BFT and kayaks in the Mudhole or the further area near the Atlantic Princess?

Thanks.

These guys were targeting the Lilian area; I have heard that the AP wreck has been really slow the last few days since bill passed through.
