Carpet vs Synthetic Teak Flooring

Hello, All...been away from the forum for a while. We are redoing the upholstery, curtains, and flooring in our old Carver 3257. It is all original and we are wanting to update the look. He's the question. What are your thoughts of the new synthetic flooring products such as PlasTEAK instead of carpet for the floor? It looks like Teak & Holly and is virtually no maintenance. I understand it is skid resistant, too.

If your talking exterior, first off PlasTeak IMHO, research and experience is your best choice. This is my second boat with this product and love it.
Only downside to fake teak is it can get hot, I have little dogs and manage it. I am in NY so not a problem. If you were in FL, I would think this could be a problem.
What makes PlasTeak better than other products, like FlexiTeak, is its UV inhibitors. What that means to you is there wont be any color change.

We are just finishing the salon. No more carpet. We are using Plasteak lonseal teak
and holly for all inside flooring. Foam padding goes down first. This is special padding from Plasteak. Very easy to install yourself. What takes time is pulling out all the staples around the hatches and steps. We also have completed the fly bridge and aft deck with Plasteak.

Do you guys notice an increase in the engine noise without the carpet? I always assumed that the carpet absorbed the noise. Better than a hard flooring product. Thanks
 
I am very interested in this, as well. I too wondered about the engine noise and perhaps even heat from the engine room? If heat, noise, and non-skid are not a problem with the fake teak, it seems to me like it would be a great way to go. Interested to hear from those who have gone this route.
 
The padding under the lonseal is a dense foam. About one quarter of an inch thick. This helps cut any noise down. The heat and sound insulation is normaly on the underside of the flooring.I have two friends that completed their flooring last year. They could not tell any difference. Very easy to keep clean. We have the front & aft staterooms and the galley floor finished last year.

Thanks, Guys - I'm looking at it for the interior. I am glad someone discussed the padding...didn't know if it was something that I should consider. My engines are aft so there is really nothing to produce heat or noise below. The padding would be for comfort, I suppose. I would like to consider the PlasDECK product for the bridge area (the outside version)...currently use custom carpets. The price is well above what I thought I would be spending...one of the reasons I wanted some adult supervision before I pulled the trigger.

Walter your boat is plasdeck. Not plasteak.
Two different products but your opinion is right on.
