My partner and I are the proud owners of 1994 Carver 370. Last weekend, the blower would not work. Had the marine mechanic look at it and discovered we had two blowers, both of which did not work. Mechanic says there are fuses on the ground wire and that is where the problem is --with the ground wire. He says it is odd to have a fuse on a ground wire (sounds odd to me too). Any thoughts? He removed the old blower and tested it in the shop and it works.

As a work around, he will reinstall the old blowers and ground the blowers to the engine ground, but he is a little leary of bypassing the existing ground. Still, he cannot figure out why there would be fuses on the ground and I do not want to pay to have him tear apart the boat to follow the ground wiring.

My owner's manual does not, unfortunately, have the wiring schematic pages included to shed any light on this issue.

Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

Sounds a little strange to me to. Call Carver 920 822-7489 and have them send you a electrical schematic of your boat. Have your HIN # ready.

My two cents...do you have a generator? If you have two ways to turn on the blowers, one at the helm, and one inside were you start the geny, it might be more practical to put in one fuse on the ground, instead of two fuses on the two power wires.

Thanks for the advice. I am calling Carver tomorrow for the schematic and to see if they have any thoughts. Naut Home: We do have a Kohler generator on board, but there is only one switch for the blower at the helm panel.

I can't imagine under any circumstance fusing the ground wire, it would defeat the purpose of having a ground. Plus when the fuse blows you will now have a live wire ungrounded. Sounds like homeowner electric to me.

While you are tinkering/correcting, move the fuses to a more accessable position. BlueSea (sp) has a very nice ignition proof fuse box with a see through casing.
