Hello
Carver 396 2004 with Volvo Tamd 6 diesel engins
How to replace starboard impeller?
Just no space to see what you are doing
Thanks

You may need to remove the pump altogether. It s easier to replace impellers on the bench especially with limited access.

Why do boat builders build that kind of crap?

I had this conversation with my grandson a couple days ago. He is working for a boat/yacht repair company right now and has been dealing with these tight fitting places almost daily. I just laugh since I do all my own work on our boats. ;)

To the original question. I have similar problem on my Luhrs and since I can no longer squeeze to the outboard side of one engine I use the opening they placed between the cabin and the engine space. It makes for easy access to the front of the port engine. Do you possibly have such an access port?

You can do it. I had to remove a pump on an old Chris Craft with the engine tight up to the bulkhead. In 100 degree heat and humidity. It was a 6 knuckle job and about 1500 F bombs. Took a week to recover. :)
