I was told by a Sales Person, , from a dealer that sells Carver and other boats this boat is a dog, and Carver did not sell many of them. Just wondering if there is any truth behind this.
I am looking at two of these boats, both 2007 models, one with IPS, other conventional straight through shafts (v-drives I think).

Personally, I like this boat, just wondering what others think of this model (Carver owners)

Thanks
Walter

Does this dealer have one of the 2 boars your looking at?
Maybe Kenny, Ramsport, will kick in on this?

We've sold a couple of these...both with IPS systems...and they run great. I can't vouch for the inboard version, but know that it will be slower than the IPS version. The boat is fast (for it's size) and quite fun to run...kind of like a runabout. The main reason they didn't sell many is that it came out just when the s**t hit the fan in the boat market, not for any shortcomings of the boat. The hull is the same as used on the 42 Mariner that preceded it and the boat's layout is fantastic.

Andy,
The dealer had none, but did have the Silverton 45C i like, so I get your point :)

Thanks Kenny, I agree the layout is great, and the bridge is huge. The hardtop option is real nice also. An RO here checked on out for me in NC that I would probably pull the trigger on but I am on the fence about IPS. I am on the fence about future repair costs, maintenance and the skinny waters I boat in.

As mentioned I personally like the boat, the boat with the straight drives does not have the hardtop.

Kenny, what did these boats sell for new in 2007, and what was the cost for IPS (assume an option) and the hardtop option ???

Thanks again

I know 2 people who have them (IPS boats) and they are in love with them. I have been on one of them quite a bit, shes fast for how large she is and around the dock handles like a dream. The owners of the one that I am on a lot added a joystick station to the cockpit for sterning in and ease of docking single handed, great option to have!

I doubt you would be dissapointed with either the shaft boat or ips, you don't see a lot of the shaft boats out there though.

When you say "have them", do you mean IPS or 42SS with IPS?
Also what year? Year is important because the year reflects the version of IPS (A,B,C,D,E)The boat I am looking at has the "B" version. Would love to chat with an owner of this boat, if that is possible I would like to email you with my phone number so we could make this happen.

Thanks
Walter

I should have clarified. The 42SS has the IPS drives, and another friend has the IPS drives in a 42 Marquis.

The 42SS is a 2008 and the Marquis is a 2009.

Walter, I'm not in sales, so I don't know what they cost new...I'm gonna guess mid $500,000 range with the IPS and hardtop. All of ours have had the hardtop and it is nice. We've sold and store many boats with the IPS system, and have had no issues with any of them...aside from a joystick needing replacement (warranty). As you may know, Lake Erie is notoriously skinny as well and we really haven't seen any damage to the units.

Hank,
I did all my homework on this boat, I took a pass on it because I just did not like the boat. My 34C, had more benefits IMHO, than this boat. So with that said, other than the IPS, really was not much more of a boat. I had a sweet deal in NC or SC (cant remember). As far as IPS goes, what you need to do is get the serial numbers of the motors of the boat your interested in and give those numbers to a Rapid Response Volvo service center. They will be able to tell you the history of the motors, and if the IPS is up to par. The IPS has been wheels in motion and has progressed tremendously from its introduction. The IPS service center will be a wealth of info on that.

IMHO,
IPS is definitely the wave of the future!!!

Walter, Excellent advice. Thanks. By no means definite but there are certain features I like. Hardtop, diesels, windshield and under water exhaust. I also am intrigued withe the IPS. Just kicking tires. I want to leave no stone unturned. Thinking about going to Redline to do a little window shopping. Haha

Sort of off topic but how do you determine water flow with under water exhaust?

Too late once she overheats. I like to know before leaving dock that i have proper water flow. If the genny exhaust was under water, I would have to buy this boat. I could raft up with either of the crews and still be within spec. :)

Hank, it's not the noise, it's the smell and the CO. We like to wake up alive.

But exhaust would be dissipated into water. No noise, no smell, no harm, no foul. We better get off this subject or we could rival the SPBM in pages.

Hank,
Couple things I remember about this boat. Second Stateroom was huge, galley had very little cabinet space, way less than your boat. It does have a cool storage room below the Galley. If equipped, that's where the washer dryer is. What turned me off about this boat when I looked at it brand new was if you slammed the cockpit door (entrance door from swim platform to the cockpit)the entire rear transom wall (where the door is attached) flexed. I never saw that in a boat before.

Most new boats are underwater exhaust. My 2007 did.
Temp gauges are designed to warn you and alarms go off before you damage motor.
Most newer gennys and engines do this.
Even my 2007. When Koehler genny impeller went it shut down before it damaged anything. When thermostat stuck on Volvo motor alarm sounded before it did damage.
