I am surveying a 2002 Carver 450 this week. The boat has 500 hours with Volvo 480's. Boat has been in a covered shed its whole life and never in salt water.

Anyone own or have owned this boat that can give some insider information as to any known issues to watch out for. I am aware of the mixing elbow issue with the Volvo engines and I am having the engine mechanic inspect these for me.

Any help is appreciated.

while checking the mixers also verify that they are fail safe, e.g if they leak internally they cant drown the engine.

Unfortunatly they are not fail safe by design. Volvo tapped the elbow on the uphill slope. I can't understand why the engineers would design it that way....

If I replace the elbows, I will get custom made which will be failsafe.
