Looking to match Carver white from 1997 on my radar arch. I got a tip about Johnson ob paint but that is too white. Any other suggestions?

Damned if I know. I've never matched the gel coat successfully on my boat...

Two thoughts:

(1) call a Carver dealer - your boat is still pretty new so maybe they can get a can from Carver or a supplier

(2) I spoke to a guy from Butler Marine in Wilkes Barre PA recently. They make pulpits and swim platforms out of fiberglass and say they can match any gelcoat color. The owner was a nice fellow, perhaps he can help you out...

Hi Bruce,

I know what you're talking about, I have the same issue on my aluminum radar arch and I in fact used the Johnson ob paint in a can. To be honest with ya, its way on top out of the way and no one can see it. I also took a large chip of my original paint and sprayed a littl epaint and guess what, it was extremely close! I think even if you get the original paint, it wont match perfectly either due to age and sun bleach, dirt etc. The main thing is to get it painted on so the corrosion doesnt eat on the aluminum.

epaint? it seems that there may be several colors of Johnson white but I dont know how to tell which will be a better match.

Have you guys tried the color swatch card by Interlux? they have many whites , one of em might match. Look for color card link, then look for topside paints and you will see all the choices. Maybe Les even sells the stuff

cut a hole in swatch and place against the arch

Check at a paint and supply place, I called the one here and they sent a guy to the boat with some type of gun and took a pigment and matched perfict with PPG concept paint
that way if it's faded it will be a match
