I phoned Bell this morning to activate roaming in the Bahamas on a Candian Bell cell phone. They say that Bell does not have a roaming agreement anymore as of October 1, 2006 even though they use Canadian systems built and designed by Nortel in Canada.
I did not ask if they did the same for other foreign countries such as the US.
This is a problem as using satellite or other forms of phone service other than Batelco is illegal.

SatPhone ( Globalstar? ) illegal?

Got more info?

This is from the BaTelCo website www.btcbahamas.com under the travelers center link - you should probably check with Verizon and/or Sprint to see how and where the roaming agreement works.

That will be interesting to see. We're hoping to be there in April '08. I'll have my Verizon CDMA phone and my wife will have her work AT&T GSM phone. If BaTelCo offers something that's actually sane, we might try it. But at this point I'm going with a serious WiFi booster and GlobalStar (even though their network is hurting right now, but for $50/month unlimited, it's worth it).
