I'm still looking for a boat and today I found a 88 carver aft cabin.

The boat is great with low hour engines but if I keep the boat for a long time or (god forbid) blow one up how ON earth do they change them??

Cut a hole in the hull??

I know this is a stupid question but if I dont ask it I will never know.

Thanks,
Bob

Which model aft cabin is it? On most of the Carver afts, you need to strip the engine down to the block and lift it out thru the entry door onto the aft deck. On 4207 Aft Cabins, you can remove the cabin side window on the side that the engine is going to be removed and take it out sideways. We've done a few on both styles of boats. Not the easiest thing to do, but beats cutting a hole in the hull

Had a replacement on the starboard side in my 32' aft. Wasn't too bad as the mechanics had customized a lift. Just had to remove the aft railing and the hatch doors (to include the framing) and just ease it out. With the Port side, I've seen it done same as RamSport where the windows are removed, an eye beam is put through the opening, the port side chained up and lifted/slided towards the starboard side (at least on my model) and the engine forked (carefully) out....much more labor intensive.

Oddly enough, that is one thing I thought of when we bought our 325. I suppose the entire glass area can be removed if needed.

Thanks guys,

We decided not to go with the aft cabin. There is just not enough seating in the bridge.. Well I should not say that. We just dont like the seating arrangement.

We have narrowed our search to the carver 36 mariner made in the 80's with the bunk bed stateroom and the queen master stateroom. I'm going to start another thread on that boat.

Thanks again,

That sure solves your engine removal problem!!!

I saw some guys remove the engine from the salon of an old Chris Craft convertible with a telephone pole lashed to a crane. They extended the pole into the salon and attached the engine to it...

I believe that my engines in the 3007 aft cabin would have to be taken down to the block & extracted through the salon entry doors. Just put a new couch in, and with the doors removed, the couch went in as a whole entity.
