We have had our 2002 double axle Eagle trailer since the 2003 season (the trailer was new in 2002, but unused as it came with a boat from someone who keeps his boat in the water/didn't want the trailer). Over that time (April 2003 - current) we have never really "maintained" the trailer as in 2003, 2004 and 2005 we used the trailer 2x a year to drop the boat in at the beginning of the season, and take it out. This year we have been trailering our boat, rather than keeping it in a slip, and we have a long trip planned a few weeks out here. About 250 miles each way up to Door County WI. QUESTION -
(1) Should we probably change our bearings, or just repack them? (2) How do I know what size/type of bearings to purchase? (3) Is this process doable by somebody who is not overly handy, but can figure out the working end of a wrench? (4) What type of grease should we use, and do we need a special gun for the trailer, or any automotive grease gun will do?
Related but other . . . Trailer Brakes? We have surge brakes. The pads and rotors look fine. Should we just fill the reservoir and move on? What type of brake fluid? Auto, or special?
Thanks for your help. Sorry for the long post.
