Anyone ever been? We're going down this weekend. Are there restaurants nearby? Is it worth bringing the kids' bikes? How long do you think it will take from Croton Point cruising at 20mph(I'm guessing 2.5-3hrs)

Decent food at Sally T's & Pool but that's it. If your boat is a good size make sure you stay in the channel.

Nice marina with a great resturant on-site.
Also, you will be 2 to 3 blocks from the beach.

check it out - www dot thechannelclubmarina dot com

We've een there the last two years for a week. We walk to the beach and then all along the beach up to Monmouth.
Ditto what Capt. Art says. Rent a car and go to Sandy Hook Fed Park beaches also? Bicycles may be allowed on the board walks but they are quite a ways down the beach.
Try to go in and leave at High tide for your own sanity. If you have Garmin software I can send you some tracks.

let us know how you make out, Chris - I've been trying to talk the Adimral into a trip that way for a few seasons, now.

Thanks for the feedback. Dan, it looks fairly straight forward to find the place and I use C-Map charts...but thanks for the offer. I looked on Google Earth and saw it's only three blocks to the beach. Unfortunately, we're running down Friday afternoon and back Sunday afternoon so I doubt we'll leave poolside.

Hey Dan, what's the water temp like at the Roundout pool? We need to plan our next trip.

Wow, we have not been in the pool, perhaps tonite or this weekend. I expect it is warming up nicely now. We did not use the channel that goes up to the north west from the marina we stayed east and came straight down.
The seabright bridge gets some serious tide flow as does the whole area, but right by the bridge and upstream from it you will see some standing waves when it is on the MOVE. Nothing serious just lotso water movin' on. Call the bridge when you get close if you need clearance. They don't like to have boats taking their time by standing off a ways.

Height, wow, I guess I have to worry about that now....my height with the light is approx 15' or 14' if I fold the light....do you think that's a problem?

At high tide the Sea Bright bridge has about 17' so you should be ok. Naturally, call the bridge and ask tthe clearance before "going for it" especially if the tide is behind you (It runs 7kts average there). The height marker is broken off on the north side of the bridge.

Low tide is 2:50pm, high tide is 9:12pm at Seabright so we should be OK water wise with the additional 1.4' of water at mid-tide.

Silly question but...since we expect to arrive at 6pm so I guess the tide will be behind us (Is that right?) ;) The water floods in from the ocean / Lower NY Bay through the highlands, right?

You got it!
The current is only a problem by the bridge. Once you clear Sea Bright you'll be fine. At least you don't have to dock in it like I do!
The water outside the channel is shallow so just pay close attention once you pass the Navesink Marina (Gas Dock) to port.

Thanks Ken! The trip was too quick...definitely a destination we will return to. The people were very, very friendly. The pool is first rate, the snack bar made nice margaritas, the beach is a couple of blocks away and very pretty. We need to go back to truly enjoy the experience!! It was way too short of a weekend!!

It took us 4hrs to get there but my friend made it back in 3hrs...not too far of a trip at all!

Oh, and gas was $3.18 for a whole gallon...oy vey!

The gas savings((3.88-3.18)*175 = $122) nearly paid for one night's slip ($4*33 = $132)

Great place to visit. Great Idea to bring bikes. A great little hut for breakfast and tiki bar next to the pool.. FYI They have fixed docks. Walking distance to the ocean. Great little town. Great prices on Hess fuel $3.17. It should not take you more than 2 hrs to cruise down. Watch the channel!!!! IT GETS TIGHT. Follow the markers...

Thanks blackdog but you're a day late ;)

I disagree with the "restaurant and pool, that's it". We walked into town Friday night and had a light dinner at a pizza shop then had ice cream...the kids loved it. Saturday night we grilled and had dinner on one of their gazeebos, very nice. Saturday we walked to the beach and the kids played for a couple of hours. In the end, we decided against bringing bikes and that was OK. There was also a nice breakfast place in town but we didn't have a chance to eat there (The witch's kitchen or something). Monmouth race track is a few miles/short cab ride away. A few more things I would have like to done with the kids: explore the islands in the dinghy, fishing/crabbing, visit my cousin who lives in SeaBright (although he did come to us), and of course eat at Sally Tee's (we didn't have the opportunity)

Glad you had a good time. Next time you'll have to bring the bikes and head down to Sandy Hook. Lots of cool old military stuff up there. I think I saw you drive by my marina Saturday around 8PM? A 33o SB with Croton on the Hudson hailing port?

I'm the only 330SB in Croton so it must have been us. But we arrived Friday at ~8pm....do your weekend days all seem like one blur, mine do ;)

Woops. Hey, I'm on vacation so all the days are blending together. Sure hope I'm not supposed to be at work today.

Sorry, I'm a few days off. We just back ourselves. We traveled to the following ports. Port Jefferson NY, Montauk NY, Block Island RI, Mystic CT. and Groton CT. Originally, Mystic was not part of the plan. Newport RI was, NOAA lied about the seas. They called for 4-7 footers. We cancelled and planned for Mystic. On the way to Mystic, (you got it) the ocean was a sheet of glass. Oh well. Guess next time will be to Newport RI and Martha's Vineyard, with a stop over at Block Island.
