Hey guys,

I have booked a weekend (7/17-19) at the Channel Club based on all of the previous raves on an HRCC thread from last year.

Just a few questions.

Anyone been there this year and is it good as ever?

It seemed that tides and the bridges were concerns. Am I correct to assume that with my flybridge I will need an opening at the second one? Is it on demand or scheduled?

Is water depth an issue with respect to the tides?

Thanks

I was there last year and it was great. You will need an opening, they open on demand. The current can be extremely strong under the bridges.

Stay in the channel, there is a lot of skinny water if you stray. It's an hour trip up the river, relax and enjoy it.

As long as Dave is the dock master, it's going to be great!!

You will have 16' down the center of the Sea Bright Bridge at high tide. If you have more than that, after you pass under the Highlands Bridge (under construction now so be careful, there you have 35' clearance)and you get the Sea Bright Bridge in site hail the bridge tender on Ch 13 and request an opening. He'll either open it if traffic is lite or he'll advise you to hold your position until he can (which I believe is every half hour). This can be tricky on an incoming tide, the current is VERY swift.
After you pass the bridge, follow the channel due south, keep Navesink Marina to port and the sedge island to starboard, and follow the channel back to the Channel Club, it will take you right to their gas dock.
This is from their web site:

From Sandy Hook Bay, travel south into the Shrewsbury River. Pass under two bridges – first the Highlands Bridge, then the Sea Bright Bridge. Continue heading due south in the channel, hugging the port side. After coming under the Sea Bright Bridge, hail the Channel Club on VHF Channel 9 to advise of your approach. Stay straight, DUE SOUTH, following the shoreline, with the sedge island to your starboard side. (DO NOT FOLLOW THE FEDERAL CHANNEL TO THE RIGHT) As a landmark, the Marina sits directly in front of the 18 story white condominium building.
Transients should pull up to the Gas Dock to sign in and receive a slip assignment. Be sure to have onboard 2 bow lines, 2 stern lines and 1 spring line, at least 25’ feet in length, preferably 30’ in length. You must also provide your own electrical cord and adapter if necessary.

DO NOT follow the main channel west to get into the Channel Club, there is very little water in the approach channel.

Have fun, I'm heading down on 8/3 for a week and my daughter is getting married there on 9/19!!

We were down on Memorial Day weekend. It was great, except the admiral is not fond of the stationary docks. Dave is still the docmaster and he and his crew do a great job! Sally T's restaurant, right at the marina is also a great place to eat. Do take some time to walk the neighborhood if you get a chance. There is a covered gazebo with a gas grill and electric if you want to do the grill thing.

Thanks!

First time there and looking forward to it.

Definitely a polular spot. A friend with a 41 Viking is on a wait list for both the Channel Club and the Atlantis.

I was there last year and plan to return sometime this season. Looks like a late season run this year. It's a great place to go and relax not a lot to do but the pool is nice short walk to a nice beach and front row seats to weddings. I will stress the fact that you can not stray from the channel there is about 6" at low tide just out side the markers. Well worth the trip enjoy.

If we get the boat north next spring we will be stopping in. Yes the crew there is terrific, and we enjoyed the short walk to the beach. Red Bank was also very good, maybe a tick better because of all the restaurants they have.

I'm at Navesink Marina, you'll love the area, tons to do. There's the Dockside Bar at Navesink Marina, it has an outdoor tiki bar with live music..very popular..
As far as the Sea Bright bridge is concerned, it opens on the hour and 1/2 hour not on demand after Memorial Day.

The next time we go, we're planning on looking into a day at the race track....merely suggesting.

Channel Club is a fav or ours. Crazy Dave is awesome. Stay in the channel the whole way!

I was also there last year and will be heading back on July 10th for a couple of nights. If you are looking for something to do one night, grab a cab and go over to Pier Village in Long Branch. Nice restaurants, shops, outdoor concerts, ect.

The only issue we had was getting caught between the bridges (it got a bit crowded)

Enjoy the trip !

It has a nice pool and a great little snack bar within about 25-30 feet. I did see a playground (not within the marina confines) but certainly within very easy walking distance. And, the ocean and beach is only a short walk from the marina...15-20 minutes.

We have been going down there the past 4 years. Excellent time and great pool. Fun place to go crabbing in August. Good chandlrey right acroos from the docks. Short walk to the beach or town. If you walk to town, you must have breakfast at the Kitchen Witch Cafe at 29 beach road, great Breakfast. Dinner, Sally T's is a must to eat at the Channel club.

And how can you forget Dave!!!!He never leaves that place... Always there when you need him.

We are heading down to the CC on Thursday for the weekend. Anyone else going down there?
