We've had many threads on the nicest place to dock, but in light of current economic trends, anybody know the cheapest place, monthly or seasonal, for a 25-30 footer?

Ideally would be on the Eastern Shore, Sassafras, Bohemia, Worton Creek, etc.

Try Hacks Point Marina. They used to be pretty inexpensive but now they are under new (and I hope better) ownership.

You want Cheap? Try Bohemia Anchorage and ask for JR (usually I know the phone number by heart but it slips my mind at the moment). Don't expect much for accomodations but they do have docks and a great view. It's the first marina on Glebe Road after you cross over the Bohemia (they have covered sheds also). We've stayed there about 5 years total with different boats. JR is a super guy. I can give you more of the skinny but would prefer not to do it in a public forum.

I have heard a few stories about the new owner of hacks point he also owns Bohemia Vista. We had several people move to Two Rivers from there last year... Joe

What do I consider cheap? The ones that cost the least. For example the marina I stayed at last year, Duffy Creek, on the Sassafras, charges $2600 for a 34 footer. A place nearby, slip for same size boat will run you $3500. That's a 25% savings, without much looking around. Who knows, maybe there's somewhere else out there for another 25% off.

Alk, shoot me an email at froggy3k at hotmail.com. I really don't want to broadcast too much as it may infringe on their privacy. Last year they were full when I stopped by.
Thx

Alk,

Check out Harbor North. More of a Redneck Yacht club, but if you need a place to call a slip with a basic ships store and gas dock, it may fit the bill. It is located 3-4 miles sout sout east of Chesapeake City MD. Not expensive, but it is the Hyundai of marinas. Just ask for Brian, and tell him Shane told you to call.

Harbor North is a possibility; but I don't like the location, to far north. I don't need much as far as amenities, as I spend very little to no time at the marina; but what they have has to be somewhat clean.

Is Havre de Grace too far?
They might have some primitive island slips available at the Yacht Basin. I think they're leasing them for $25/ft for the year. 410-939-0015.
You'd need a dinghy, though.

Harbor North is actually SW of Chesapeake City.
As for Hacks Point, there is also another low-frills marina nearby called "Richmond's". It's on the other side of the tiny Scotchman Creek bridge on Glebe Riad and across the other side of the road from Hacks. So, it's actually on Scotchman creek, and your boat has to be able to fit under the Glebe Road Bridge that crosses Scotchman Creek. The vertical clearance is 11' at high tide. I don't know the prices at Richmond's, but they seem pretty low frills.

I forgot about Richmond's. Fairly decent docks, pool and the bath houses were new 10 or so years ago. Kept a 28'er there for about 4 years. Jim Richmond is (was and I guess still is) the owner. Last time I was there (a few years ago) it had a lot of the go fast crowd there. I guess most have sobered up or got married by now though. I preferred the dock that runs next to Glebe road. Easy in, easy out. The other docks you always had to deal with a cross current. I had a single I/O and it made it tough sometimes. Just make sure you drop your antennas before going under the bridge.... I never did but did see quite a few break...

What's the deal with the go-fasters that were at Richmond's? Almost all the go-fasters I know are married and seem pretty sober....they have to be at 60 mph. Many of them, like Chuck (R.O. "C_Spray") seem to be very knowledgeable gear heads.

START EDIT Didn't mean to group all go fasters as a wild group. Sort of like the jet ski saga. I have quite a few good friends with Fountains. Responsible and sober (when at the wheel). I probably should have said a 'party marina' instead..... sorry END EDIT
Whenever I was there with the go fasters it was usually by dink to walk up to the Hacks Point store. Quite a few times it looked like Fairlee Creek on Labor Day. I would have liked to stay but the wife..... :(
When we stayed there is was very quiet. But that was when Clair was still alive-mid 90's. I guess she kept Jim on a tight leash.. I have no idea what it has been like the past couple years.

See, when you spend too long away from the water, you end up forgetting your east from your west. I think my internal charts are flipped upside down... duh

(Rob, wanna take a ride to Lorton and pick up a ton of cast iron saturday??? he he he)

If you dont mind driving to kent narrows, The Kent Island yacht club has slips for about $1600 or so. There is a $630 membership fee each year but it is still very reasonable. Great restaurant, pool and close to everything.
You will save on fuel because you are closer to Annapolis, Rock Hall, St. Michaels and Baltimore. Not to mention Red Eyes Dock bar, The jetty, Big Owl and a host of restaurants you can walk to from there. Great anchorages all around the area. Their number is 410 643 4101.

Long Point Marina on the Bohemia $1350 for the smaller slips and $1900 for the larger slips. Clean heads, decent docks and one of the best mechanics in the area.
